Its just kicking a ball straight, nothing more to it, and shouldn't wages give you an indication of how good a player is?

far too simplistic. It is hard to kick a ball accurately over that distance, hense why players like Beckham, Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Carrick etc have such widely renowned passing ranges.
