David Beckham trained with Arsenal today, wearing the Gunners' training kit with the number 23 on it.

That was the number vacated by England colleague Sol Campbell and which Beckham wore during a four-year-spell at Real Madrid.

The former England captain, who spent the majority of his career with the Gunners' Barclays Premier League rivals Manchester United, has been working with Arsenal at their London Colney complex since Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder is using the Major League Soccer's off-season to keep his fitness up as he closes in on 100 caps for his country, but had not been expected to wear Arsenal colours.

forget the experience he would have being on the set pieces in training allowing the likes of dawson and kaboul the chance to defend quality crosses

Now where's the connection there then? Why not at Manchester where he still knows so many people, staff and players? Why not at Spurs, where he has friends and an affection through family ties? Why not Citeh, with his best buddy Sven? Why not Everton, with his other good buddy Neville?

I can't work that one out - i think it's money. I think that this runs deeper than him just using the Woolwich's facilities and squad to keep his fitness up with.

There's not one player at the club i can find an obvious connection with Beckham, so all i can imagine is that he's picked them simply because they, arguably, have the best coaching setup in the country, in his opinion.

Can bet Sven and SAF will be feeling a bit put out though, especially seeing him wearing them dirty red-rags, with that paw-print of a badge stapled to it...

I guess while he's back in the UK, he will be back at his house in Hertfordshire, with Arsenal training in Herts. they are probably the closest team to him, Watford aside.

The Arse are known as a team that never gives up, their fitness is probably the best in the league and they play incredibly good football, I'd say they're the best team in the country to train with.

Plus I'm not sure what relations are like between him and SAF these days, but perhaps returning to his old club would be a bit awkward.

As mentioned above, he is only there as they are the best training option local to Beckingham Palace. Do find it interesting that he has allowed himself to be pictured in full l'Arse training trackie, with 'Fly Emirates' plastered upon it. He is an employee of LA Galaxy - very highly paid to promote their brand and sponsors, image rights being a critical component of his contract.
