1-0 after 15 minutes, through Gellard. Thought the bastard might be dropped for tonight...

They deserved that, and we deserved that too - we've been defending like a bunch of washing machines on the fast spin.

Rooney should smack himself for missing that header too.

No, Heskey doesn't score much but he keeps the defenders around him all the time and so opens space up for everyone else.

He might have difficulty scoring in Dwight Yorke's jacuzzi, but, like Crouch, he's very difficult to deal with and makes room and opportunities for his partner in a 4-4-2. The responses to the possibility that we might sign him (see Transfer Rumours) were in equal measure pathetic and ignorant.

Pretty good performance, seeing that Spain, Germany and Holland scraped wins against Belgium, Wales and Norway, and that Turkey were held by Estonia.

I only saw the 2nd half, but thought England looked good. Rooney's 2nd goal was classy, a nice weighted pass from Gerrard, who hit the post later when he should've scored, and made it 4.

Amazing to hear the locals cheering for Becks everytime he got the ball in the last 5 minutes. We so underestimate his impact and stardom throughout the world.

At least we're looking more like a team than Italy did when I watched them draw 0-0 v Bulgaria last Saturday. Dreadful match, and their fans went on ther rampage afterwards.

Rooney's second goal was magnificent. His two dummies (three if you count sending the keeper the wrong way) were Ginola like. Beautiful to watch.

You know what, I am really enjoying watching England play.

Capello has done a seriously imrpessive job so far. Eriksson, McClaren, couldn't get the team to play like this, this often.

We start well, we get slack, he tells them what he wants and they come out and do it, to great effect. He isn't afraid to change things around, and we actually saw a Lampard/Gerrard combo that actually worked last night. Lampard was very very good, very disciplined.

We came out for the second half fighting everything, and looked like we could have routed them if we had kept the tempo up.

Expect much better things from this England team (well capello's reign), he seems to have the respect for the players and Rooney is really coming into his own.

Special mention to Heskey though. I would have fucking lvoed this guy at Spurs. Okay, he isn't a 20 goals a season striker, but whoever plays next to him would score 20+ goals a season, he is one of he most unselfish players, and was simply awesome last night.

Our best start to a competition ever.. thats impressive on its own.

Now, lets go finish it off the group and concentrate of developing some of the players for the world cup.
