You say that but he's been gitting forward a lot this season, check the lay off to Eriksen before he passes it to Kane for the 3rd goal, had to double check that was Ben Davies up there and playing that pass.
People including me have said that Rose will add something that Davies doesn't have when he comes back nut IMO Davies is making himself a nuisance with his attacking play by popping up in forward positions unmarked which is something that Rose doesn't do...great headache to have for Poch.
Poch really is the fullback whisperer. Rather than the almost instant improvement we saw in Walker and Rose, Davies has been slowly and consistently improving to a point where he has to be considered one of the best left backs in the league, which when you consider he's not our first choice (although he's most certainly staking his claim) just goes to show how good a coaching team we have.
yes Poch has helped him out a lot, but that's doing Ben a disservice. Davies was always going to be this brilliant, clever, steady, heart on his sleeve type, because he has such a strong natural understanding of the game. Enough credit cannot be given to Ben himself.
Yeah, I absolutely do not want to take away anything from Ben who is working his way into my heart. But there is something about what Poch does with fullbacks, he's don't it with four of them now so it's not coincidence. But, absolutely agree, Ben had to be able to do what Poch tells him and he's doing it remarkably (as I posted earlier in the thread, he's learnt some more tricks which reflects really wel on him).
It's definitely close which is not something you'd have said last season. A lot depends on how Danny comes back, I think we forget how good he was (and add in his twattishness earlier this summer) but he was getting close to being world class if not there already.
Having both is brilliant for us and would allow us to cash in on Danny if he doesn't sort his life out.
Don't think we have to think of it like that - I think Poch wants 4 fullbacks/wingbacks that he can depend upon, so he can rotate freely. They use up the most energy getting up and down the flanks, and we would be better off able to rotate them through busy periods.
I said this after the Newcastle game. He's really improved his ability going forward which in turn has given him more confidence when in the final third. He pops up everywhere now too which I wasn't completely expecting.
Echoing everyone...agreed with all the superlatives above, but also wanted to note his defensive positioning was truly fantastic tonight. I never thought this would happen, but he has quite possibly become my favorite player. Has not put a foot wrong as of late. Super intelligent, team first player who is not (and may never be) a superstar but does all the little things we need to help us win.
Never thought he was capable of this level and thats coming from sumbody who was happy when we signed him. The boy has incredible stamina and he pops up everywhere. Pressing up high with kane numerous times, he was even there on the damn penalty spot shouting for the ball for the 3rd goal!!!
Really chuffed for the lad because at one point he was really up against it and clearly very very low on confidence.
