This is not a overreaction, he’s nowhere near good enough to be starting for us

How can we think we can win the league with him as our LB?

I appreciate what he’s done for us, fighting his way to a starting spot but it’s time we sell him

We should also sell Rose, we need 2 new LB imo

Grimaldo, Tierney, Shaw, Alex Telles
2 of them would be perfect or at least one of them
Definitely an overreaction. I think he's been bad the three games, but he's shown the past two years he's been good enough.

He's a very good player to have in and around the squad, but he hasn't enough quality and consistency with that quality to be starting for a team aspiring to win the title.

I think deep down the club knows this IMO, but the situ with Rose (injury and poor form) has meant it's been difficult to move him on and bring somebody in to compete.

The problem with players who are there more for work ethic and consistency is that when they have a bad game they don’t have the natural talent to make up for it.

Good enough for what? Top 4 maybe but never to win a title
Man City's left backs last year were Delph and some youngster who's name I can't be arsed to google who they wanted to get rid of in the summer and they got a record amount of points. There are bigger areas of concern.

Seems like he’s taken a step back recently. Confidence looks shot to pieces right now. Time to give Rose an actual run of games to find his form. And perhaps consider giving KWP a go as well. Davies needs to regroup and focus on getting his game back together again. Today really wasn’t good from him at all. Then again why Poch persists with playing him as a wing back is beyond my understanding. Just isn’t his position.

While i would have loved to see 3 at the back, it doesn't work well with Rose and Davies playing the way they are and Aurier and Trips having defensive liabilities too. If you are trying to get your strongest on the field, then Jan out left, Sanchez and Toby in the middle and Trips on the right. Trips will get exposed against a fast skillful player but his servicing on offense reduces the damage. Dier in front of the four for the now. He is far from perfect but he still covers well. Dembele in for 30 or 60 minutes of a game but no more. Dembele's game seems to be mental. If Victor comes back 100%, then he's the man and Dier/Demble/Winks can partner up with him.

He's a good LB and probably underrated in the main, but I do worry about him in a 5.. Trippier is more suited to the creative demands of that role, and a fit, on-form Rose would almost be another winger with his energy (as some of the title winning teams have gone with) although we may never see that again.

I might be wrong, but I think Davies has pretty decent creativity stats but if half of our outfield team are defenders that places a lot of impetus on them to help make things happen and I don't think that's his best strength.

We are not Man City, they are better than us all over the pitch.

So why single out Davies as not being good enough to win a title with then? We only have three or four World Class players. Should we get rid everyone else bar those? You don't need to have of brilliant players in every position to win the league. Championship winning teams are littered with average players playing a lot.

The last three full backs pairings to win the league:
Walker + Delph
Moses + Alonso
Simpson + Fuchs

You telling me all those are/were much better than Davies has been the last two years? If Rose gets back to form we'll have one of the best left-back situations in the league.

Not that I particularly rate them as outstanding footballers but i would say all of those have the pace and energy to get up and down for 90 minutes. Like it or not that is probably the biggest requirement for a modern day full back/wingback and they all have that in common. Davies is very one paced and very one footed. He’s never going to produce something positive if We aren’t on our game. For me he gets carried a bit by this team. I think we’re at a stage we’re we need to start assessing the easiest areas to improve on and lb/wb is high on the list for me anyway.

he was poor yesterday and Im sure he'd admit it. I saw him react in disgust with himself at least twice yesterday. Having said that he's generally been good for us. He needs to continue to be because I have little faith in Rose getting back to form. I dont think Poch does either which is why he was willing to let Rose go this summer.

If neither Davies or rose recapture their form I’d seriously consider a 4 with vertonghen LB. it’s exactly the sort of call pep would make, no messing about.

Which would totally weaken our central defensive area.

Vertonghen has been massive at the heart of the defence for the last 3 seasons, so moving him to full back weakens us considerably
