Ben Alnwick admitted to a few nerves before an impressive debut for us in Monday night's reserve friendly against Norwich City.

The young goalkeeper snapped up from Sunderland last week enjoyed a faultless first 90 minutes in a Spurs shirt and kept a clean sheet as it finished goalless at Carrow Road.

He was forced into action twice in the first half, denying lively Norwich forwards Ian Henderson and Ryan Jarvis in one-on-one situations.

So having played in front of 35,000-plus at the Stadium of Light and in away games at the Lane and Arsenal in his time at Sunderland - why the nerves?

"It's always hard going to a new club, meeting new people and getting to know everyone on the pitch and I did have a few nerves beforehand," he said.

"I kept a clean sheet, made a couple of saves, fielded a few crosses and kicked well, so I was happy with that.

"I was pleased with the second save (from Jarvis) because he came straight down the middle and I guessed the right way and made the save. They were good up front with two crafty players but our centre-halves did superbly.

"I haven't played since Preston away for Sunderland in October so to step straight back into it here, keep a clean sheet and the way it all went was very pleasing."

Clearly he isnt going into the team just yet, but I feel he may have been bought more than just back up; but as a player to potentially push robbo all the way - and indeed take his place if he doesnt buck up his ideas. England have several good u21 keeps and for this guy to turn out for them shows he's got quality and is himself a future england prospect.

I still believe in robbo and realise all keepers go through shaky periods. But nevertheless those 3 savable goals at newcastle were horrendous viewing. He's fluctuated from being the best in the prem to bellow average - lets hope he'll fluctuate back just as easily.

How can you say this!! If he was a "flapper" then he wouldnt be spurs no.1 or englands no.1. You cant possibly say this after what he has done for us over the last 2 seasons.
