Agree that they need to be able to play alongside Kane, but it's more important that they can play on their own without him, like Berahino.

Most of his best play has come beside a partner, be it in previous boss Alain Casanova’s 3-5-2, or this season in Dominique Arribage’s 4-4-2 diamond, one thing is clear, Ben Yedder is not a lone striker.

This season it has been Dane Martin Braithwaite running the line, with his diminutive partner chasing the space behind. Ben Yedder will push down the channels, make darting runs and look to exploit any holes in the opposition defence.

If either Spurs of West Ham are looking for a striker to play up top on his own, Ben Yedder is not the man for the job. At just 5 foot 6 inches tall; he isn’t big or strong enough for the role, especially not in the Premier League.

Although he is quick along the ground, he doesn’t have the outright pace that would make him an option the wing. His game is based on his instinct and his low centre of gravity. Turning quickly, running in between defenders, his futsal days mean he is blessed with excellent skill, balance and guile with the ball at his feet.

Signing Ben Yedder as an alternative to Harry Kane wouldn’t make a lot of sense in the Spurs attack. However, asking him to play with the England international would be a thrilling prospect. West Ham also have the type of players that could help the forward thrive in the right system – there is no doubt that he would certainly add to both squads, but he has to be utilised properly.

You don’t score that many goals in Ligue 1 without being a top striker, but it has to be in the right system. To put someone of Ben Yedder’s physical stature up front in the Premier League on his own, would be a recipe for disaster.

Lol this probably wouldn't be a good idea then.

He is a very good player, I like him a lot! I think really his "hype" died down purely because the rest of the Toulouse team is God-awful.

He is a nippy striker who is really comfortable on the ball, can beat a man and score all sorts of goals! If he was available for such a low price, would be all over it!!!

Sounds a bit like Bojan - would be an interesting foil for Kane.

He always reminded me of a poor mans Aguero. Liked him for a couple years now. Can play multiple positions and I do think he could work on his own up top given his movement on and off the ball.

IMO, he's not talking about a striker when he says that. He's really talking about the role Rodriguez played for him. An AM who can act as a 2nd striker. But he already has Chadli, Son and N'Jie for that role here, although N'Jie is currently out through injury.

Michy Batshuayi isn't having the best of times at the moment, according to French newspaper L'Equipe on Sunday. The 22 year old Belgian hasn't scored in his last 5 matches, which is a shock considering he'd been scoring consistently before then.

L'Equipe on Sunday largely absolve Batshuayi of blame, instead pointing the finger at his Marseille teammates for not creating enough opportuities. Marseille are in the market for a winger this month, with a return of Florian Thauvin a possibility, and some added creativity and quality can't come quickly enough.

The French newspaper say Tottenham sent an emissary to watch the recent match against Guingamp, and will have left without much learned, and a very thin scouting file. Spurs are continually watching Batshuayi and Marseille's next match after Guingamp was against Toulouse.

Toulouse won 2-1 and a certain Wissam Ben Yedder scored, his eighth goal in 5 matches at that point. As France Football have reported, Tottenham then made an €8m bid for Ben Yedder, but saw that rejected. Olivier Sadran, Toulouse president, would rather keep Ben Yedder until the summer, when he's said the 25 year old will be sold, but a bid which sees a leap from €8m may well have a chance of success.

Small point to factor in as well is that he has scored 14, 16 and 15 goals in the last 3 seasons for Toulouse, and at his current rate of 7 in 17 this year, you could project he will score another 14-16 goals by the end of this season in total.

Just shows consistency, and if he can do that in a team full of absolute gash, could be a good player to have at the club...

Would take Ben Yedder of Long, then try agree a deal to sign Dembele, but let him stay on loan at Fulham for the rest of the year

Ben Yedder feels like the type of player we should be looking at for the backup to Kane role. He will always be in contention to start because he is versatile, he's a goal scorer and he offers us something different in that he likes to play on the last defender and make runs in behind.

Someone mentioned either in this thread or elsewhere that they thought we were most likely looking for a Jay Rodriguez type. Ben Yedder is pretty close to that. He could play up top, in a two striker formation or in the AM3.

It's a small investment for a player that could help round out our attacking options.

He's also versatile enough that we aren't going to need to pigeon-hole him into a CF-only role. It may allow us to go for a young player like Dembele (and loan him back) to become the true "understudy (seems weird with how young Kane is)" to Kane.
