i thought he was stand out in the WC. really noted him for speed and strength, also pressing, stamina and energy and a few great attempts on goal apart from that goal. i thought i would love to see him at Spurs.
probably no chance then lol
I thought he was a stand out at WC playing RB and for his attacking play. I thought his defensive side was suspect at times, but that’s to be expected. Essentially we would be getting him as CD so I’m not sure how much we can derive from his WC performances beyond the fact he can player RB very well.

[Times Sport] #thfc made a three man shortlist to replace Toby Alderweireld which include Mathijs De-Ligt, Yerry Mina and Benjamin Pavard.

Not really sure how Mina fits in alongside MDL and Pavard. Happy with either the dutchman or the frenchman however.

The Times information doing the rounds is from an omnibus story in The Times on how Liverpool's rivals will respond to their summer transfer moves so it's hard to know how much here is actually reported news by The Times, and how much is just editorializing information from a variety of sources with a variety of reliability.

I think he'd be a very expensive acquisition in a low priority area. IMO, Dier needs to concentrate on being a CB and we need to bring in a top quality CM (preferably 2 if Dembele goes) as a matter of urgency. We also have Foyth who I think will be an outstanding player, particularly on the right side of a back 3. We also have decent depth at RB with Walker-Peters needing, and deserving a chance. Not at all sure where Pavard fits in tbh. If we're looking for a CB we should be concentrating on a successor to Vertonghen imo who we can develop for a couple of seasons.

not seen him play in the league but wasn't particularly impressed by his world cup apart from his goal.

probably nearly as expensive as Deligt now on the back of world cup but not as good imo

I don't understand how you can say you've only seen him at the WC but he isn't as good as De Ligt?

Also at no point do they say those players are on a 'three-man shortlist'. More bullshit from these Tottenham news accounts.

what bit of that complex code did you have trouble cracking?

I only have seen him in the world cup and what I saw of him in the world cup (with me so far?) wasn't as impressive to me as what I have seen of Deligt IN MY OPINION

better? or do you need it storyboarded too

Yes much better thanks and there's no need for the shitty attitude.

I am not going to lay out personal views on the game of someone I have not seen play, or for that matter only seen play a few international games out of position, because quite frankly (sorry not sorry to many in this thread) I do not find that helpful. Instead, I will out myself as someone who has no life and beyond spending hours lurking on here, does the same on Reddit Soccer.

Anyways, back in May (pre-WC) there was a thread started on this pass he made in his debut game in the Bundesliga 2. Horrendous organization by the opposition, but holy crap!

https://streamable.com/z29q0

Some Stuttgart fans popped in and I will copy a few comments they made on Pavard:

"He has been incredible for us the entire season. Played every minute of every game for us and only got two yellow cards in 36 matches. With his consistency he's a huge reason for our amazing defense. And he's only 22, this was his first Bundesliga season. I don't even have a panic attack anymore if he does stuff like that. Would've never thought that two seasons ago"

"Our golden boy, don't you dare bid for him."

"Damn, seeing Benjaminho Pavardinho on first page of reddit makes me anxious. Don't you dare to bid for him!"
(and then the same poster responding to a French fan saying he had struggled in his last friendly at RB)
"He is a much better CB to be fair. He also played a few games at RB for us which were not his best games honestly. He is just not the type of guy to run up and down the field for 90 minutes. That said, he is definately solid defensively on the right, his attacking game is just a bit too weak as of right now (especially for France)."

"Some background: This was actually Pavards very first game with Stuttgart last year back in the 2nd Bundesliga. He also went on to score a goal himself as we ended up winning 4:0 against Greuther Fürth.
From that point on most VfB-Fans figured out what a diamond in the rough we had at our hands here.
Now about one and a half years later Pavard has not missed a second of action in the Bundesliga while captaining the 2nd best defense in the league to a outstanding 7th place finish. Deschamps called him up for the World Cup (unfortunately only as a RB, his far weaker position) and our director of football has already announced that he wont listen to offers under 40 million as Pavard doesnt have a release clause in his contract. At the moment a lot of signs point to him staying for another year however after a big WC performance all bets are gonna be off.
There are already rumors about interest from Bayern, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and more. Wherever he ends up he is gonna be absolute world class. I just hope he wont transfer within Germany as I want to root for him in the future. Benji! <3"

I watched him a couple of times in the Bundesliga last season and was sold on him then, still sold on him now. Sign him up Levy, he'll form a large part of our backbone for years to come

Another useful piece of information regarding Pavard. Bayern Munich top transfer fee ever is £36m for Tollisso, meaning that to secure Pavard services they'll have to smash their transfer record for him, even with his low buyout clause activating next summer.

Realistically Bayern would have to pay around £10m more than they've paid for anyone before to secure him this summer.

Looks a good like for like replacement for Alderweireld who can cover centre back and right back in emergency.

Also would be quite good on right side of a back three.

I would still prefer to keep Alderweireld personally but that might not be possible.

Have only seen bits and pieces, do people think he can become quality of the level of Verts and Toby?

Imo he is defo not replacement for toby ... totally diff ... in the WC he scored a cracker not the reason anyone wants to buy a defender... was he outstanding as a defender or wing back .... no he was not. If its a good orice fair enough if we need a versatile defender ... we need a toby esque type replacement

1. No one is signing anyone because of one World Cup goal...that is ludicrous.
2. He played out of position that whole tournament as stated 100s of times. so judging him as a wing back is unfair.
3. The World Cup was 7 games (in which I thought he played well)...once again the club would look deeper than that, perhaps even at his brilliant club season, at centre half, just gone which earnt him that call up.
4. Sanchez is the Toby replacement I feel, Pavard would most likely come in as a third option at centre half.

A summary of my thoughts, because there are a lot of people questioning our need for a right back, particularly on twitter.

Just my opinion.... but I’m see about 5-10 Stuttgart games live per year and IMO Pavard will become as good as Toby, I don’t have any/much doubt about that. His improvement and commitment has been very impressive and I’ve been harboring hopes that if he leaves it will be to Tottenham.
The only question is what happens to Foyth - they are somewhat similar, and which French teams will be prepared to outbid us now he has the status. My gut feel is he won’t play for anyone else in Germany.
From Spurs perspective it’s a massive shame he isn’t left footed, defense would be set for a decade if he was.
