This was unlikely so i am not disappointed. He would have been useful for his versatility but I would not see him as a definite first XI player. He is one of these lads that can play in 2 or 3 positions but isn't master of any of them. Where would he play for us? He have 3 RB's right now. I don't think he is a natural CB although I have seen him play there. Could not see him as a successor to Toby. I wonder why we were interested in the first place?

On another note - reading through Stuttgarts forum - they say that this release clause only becomes active when Stuttgart don't qualify for the CL this season. Their manager Reschke did that, to prevent anyone from signing Pavard this summer, because it is as of yet not sure if there will be a release clause next summer. (Of course it will be difficult for them to qualify)

They say, the only possible scenario if you want him now - is paying what Stuttgart wants now
As any form of pre-contract signed now would be in legal doubt

[Mirror Football] understand Benjamin Pavard has snubbed a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a move to Bayern Munich.

If Pavard fancies his chances in team that currently has Hummels, Boateng & Sule battling for two places in defence then good luck to him. I fancy we’ll try for De Ligt if Toby leaves by the end of this window if the Pavard rumours are true

Boateng is most likely leaving

The problems really come when you are tackling with your 'wrong' foot. As a CB you usually try to push the attacker wide (i.e. away from the centre of the goal, in which case a right footed CB would need to tackle with his left foot, which isn't ideal. Some players get by, some don't.

I played LCB as a right footer. I actually find it more natural. A good defender will tackle effectively which whatever is nearest the ball.

A RCB will have to cover his inside channel too.

Only thing that is more natural is pinging the ball around the defence. It's a better flow to let it come across your body.
