BAE went on loan last season and has been totally compliant with the club.
He does not deserve this. He can't get another club because of the injury he carries.
However, I think this is just a taster for the real battle is to come with BAE's mate, Adebayor. It is going to be fascinating to see how that develops....where's the popcorn.

How did this escalate so quickly. Last summer, at the beginning at least, he was still our starting LB and had just had another decent season and then bang. It clearly wasn't just a thing between him and AVB, as was speculated at the time.

Shame all around.

Actually I was quite surprised that he fell out with AVB that much to be banished because he had said not long before he was gone that AVB was like a friend to whom he could talk about other hobbies like cars.

The trouble is it sets a precedent. If players know we'll pay up their contract if they want out they'll deliberately cause trouble and get ostracised.
Having said that we don't know if this is actually the case. As a few posters have commented, this is all speculation.

We are already setting a precedent of having disgruntled players, and having to pay them anyway to not contribute to our squad. Either option stinks and should be avoided. But if it occurs on a rare occasion, it's better to simply end the contract somehow rather than have him on the books and making it known that your career can stall or end at our club.

BAE has been on our books for 8 years and I reckon we have done quite well out of him. There was a time when only Cole was arguably a more effective LB in the PL. However I think Rose will develop to an equivalent level and Davies is already more effective and younger.

It is a shame BAE has a rep for not being interested in the team. I don't think that is true, but he has made it clear to people over the years that football is his job and that he has many more interesting things in his life. He still works hard in his job though.

The problem is that football and Spurs are often times more of a religion for the fans and his refusal to seem intensely dedicated to servicing their hopes and dreams can make him a target.

I doubt we will see him in a Spurs kit again, unless it is all media gumf and he is just coming back from WC duty etc. Permanent move or a loan to the end of his contract is likely. Wish him well. Shame really as I had part of my stag do on the '06 Inter Milan friendly and he was lightning compared to the recent LB incumbents (Atouba and Edman).

Lost any likeness or respect for Benny and Adebayor after that tweet. What grates me, is Adebayor was welcomed back. Even some of my Spurs mate, wonder why I hate Adebayor so much.

Mercenary ****, springs to mind!

Imagine that, a footballer being mercenary.

Totally agree with your second paragraph.
I have a lot more going on in my life than my job, but I still work to the best of my abilities. I believe that I am very good at my job. I think it's the same with Benny.

I'm no fan of Benny but unless he's blotted his copy book he should be allowed to train with the team

I believe he failed a medical for a permanent transfer last year? He is a joker like Sandro. If we want top 4 and more we need dedication.
We've finished top 4 twice in epl history and Benni played lb for us on both occasions.
Other than that, a really well thought out post.
Prawn sandwich fan?

Bit hard to make a comeback to that comment with your name.
Never mind.
We should keep players that used to be good?

You questioned his dedication, not how good he is.
And I never said or even implied we should keep players because they used to be good.
Fair point on the name though lol.
Was childishly bitchy of me & I apologise :sorry:

I thought everyone already knew this but it appears not. The Tweet at the Liverpool game with Benny and Ade holding their fingers up had no reference to the result. It was the exact pose the two of them did in many other photos together. Just two fools trying to look gangster.

If anything the photo shows two players who had been isolated by the manager coming along to support their team.
you can't be that naive, surely? I think the pic with him and Adebayor was taken before the game, but you can't tell me someone tweets a picture like that with "what a game tonight....happy to see my man @E_Adebayor (LOL)" and doesn't know what they're doing.

Adebayor to his credit attempted to set the record straight the day after: "I apologise to all Spurs fans who thought from the Assou-Ekotto picture that we were making fun out of the defeat. That picture was taken BEFORE the game.I couldn't have possibly known the score.I would NEVER DO THAT.That pose is how I pose in all my pictures...."

Ekotto on the other hand tweeted: "What a good monday!Massage bike gym! And now on my way bk with this song in my car i love it

hv a good monday too LOL". he definitely knew what he was doing there.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I think his time at the club is rightly over. I just think you've made a lot of assumptions in your views that are not necessarily correct. The part where he says about it being a great game, fair enough, but the rest you could have just taken 2+2 and got 5.

All that Quinella business finished him off to me and I don't want him back.

which are the assumptions then? do you agree he was trolling after the game? what kind of professional would tweet such a thing after a 5-0 home drubbing?
