Benoit Assou-Ekotto has undergone knee surgery following an injury picked up earlier in the season.

The recovery time from the operation will mean the 23-year-old defender, who has played twice for us this term, will miss the remainder of the campaign.
“Benoit had an operation on the knee on Thursday morning and the recovery time post op means he will miss the rest of the season,” confirmed Sporting Director Damien Comolli.
“Benoit is still only young but he is very disappointed to be out injured for this length of time.”

The guy that said his only a professional footballer because his brothers said he would make lots of money, is out for the rest of the season

This was really sad. Let's buy Taye Taiwo in the January transfer window. Bale and Taiwo on the left side would be great.

Yes - I have watched Marseille this season, and yes - I know that Taiwo has not been at his best. I like that, because at that moment, it is the best timing to buy a player. You can get him cheaper and a bargain buy.

I don't think Marseille is that good as a unit, and that is the main reason for their struggle. I do not care if a team is in 14th position. What I care about is the potential and talent of the player. I know that Taiwo is a quality player, and would improve us. That is why I want him. I also believe we can get him at decent price tag if we act soon.

We have to learn now - We can pick up a great talent here.

Given the reports that he is not particularly in love with playing football, I think he has been incredibly lucky since joining us. To get paid vast amounts of money to not do your job seems like heaven.

It is us I feel sorry for.

At least Sick Note Anderton SOMETIMES played for us.

Im not sure Benoit has shown us what he really has, im trying to think of good players who have taken awhile to fit in and gone on to prove themselves (im sure there are some but ive not been up long) Benoit has been unlucky with injuries, lets hope he gets fit and proves or disproves his quality.

I do not understand. He has been out for ages, but has only just had an operation? What has he been doing upto now, been on an NHS waiting list? Or has he been busy doing all those other things he has stated he prefers doing instead of playing football?

I'd be surprised if his attitude and Juande's methods can gel.

Doing the maths, a knee operation at the end of November putting Benoit out till the end of the season means at least six months rehab. That means it's a pretty serious knee injury, and the club don't seem to have disclosed precisely what it is. Eg is it cruciate ligaments?

The biggest clue we have is the rehab time. I'd be interested in the views of any of SC's resident medical experts as to what's likely to be up with BA-E's knee.
