Darren Bent's future at Tottenham was thrown into doubt last night after the striker pulled out of his club's Carling Cup semi-final second leg against Burnley.

The player told manager Harry Redknapp's assistants that he was injured and did not get the team's flight to the North-west, prompting suggestions at the club that he is disillusioned.

Aston Villa have been interested in the England international, who signed for Spurs for £16.5m in 2007, although no formal approach has been made. He also came in for heavy criticism from Redknapp after missing a simple back-post header to win the Premier League match against Portsmouth on Sunday.

Since then, Redknapp has said that he stands by his comment that his wife would have scored the chance and that people should not be so "precious" about criticism.

Redknapp has no class, he's a second rate, second tier old school manager who is taking Tottenham Hotspur nowhere fast.

I'm don't know that he's second-rate, but he really does lack any sort of class or dignity.

if levy's made the deal with jones coming the other way it's great news; however if Bent's done a sol and just gone awol, then, yes, it's awful management from redknapp, he might've just thrown away a player who could've helped spurs stay up.

I think Harry is wrong to criticise players in public but on the other hands if players have not played well they should be man enough to take the criticisms.

I'm not going to say,i told you so !
the geezer is a joke .

sorry but bent has had plenty of opportunity to stake his claim, and that miss was a total howler. he needs to stand up and be counted. if he has actually faked an injury out of spite then that shows that he doesnt have the bollocks to come out and prove the doubters wrong. im not for harry's comments, but im neither for bent if he isnt going to stand up and prove in the next match that he's got the goods. lets hope its a legit injury and this is a paper wind up

This is crap. If he does leave it ain't cause of this, he's had the groin injury since the first leg of the burnley game its hampered his sharpness.
could of done with him tonight. We were so lucky

    I LOVE FOOTBALL!

Bent has definitely lost confidence and 'arry's comment won't have helped. It was a bad miss but it still would have needed a quality header. I think 'arry has blown it up to be more than it was. Disappointing yes, but the only weakness from the game? Anyway, I hope Bent is injured and this is just the press stirring....

disillusioned? Do you think he walked about with that stupid face he does while rubbing his head. He must do it every game.

But on the same token Harry should take some criticism when the team don't perform, rather than always blaming the players or past management or whoever !!!

    I hope that he stays.

And regarding tonights game, the better team lost - the beauty of the game I suppose. at 100/1 someone was 2 minutes away from a nice little payout.

I dare anyone say anything about Pav now - back from injury but we created nothing before his introduction. A goal and an assist, still not good enough TOY?

And Taarabt was great. yes tried too many cross-overs but his power is something we really need in the league, hope Harry sees that. He pushed off two at a time, creating himself bags of space. An inspiring display. Just on the basis of thsoe 25 minutes, I'd rather give him a run in the team, than GDS.

sorry, but harry is crass; he shows too many of his cards. criticise players in private to their face, not in public. at least fergie shows class by never criticising his players in public.

    Pav's miss was worse...!
  14. rabs
pav's miss was a shocker too...easily as bad as bents...BUT he managed to make amends and score, and put us into the final, so for that, we forgive and forget. if only Bent had another 10 mins last sunday eh....
  15. alfiespurs
No... I think Zakris was even worse .... :grin:i
  16. alfiespurs
So did Mr Jol, who had a pleasenat way of bollocking you ...

Love ARRY--just what we all need, come out and publicly slate his players. Now they willo really want to play for him. Can ARRY just keep his mouth SHUT. we were poor, the players were dreadful but dont come out and wash them publicly.

He was also poor on the night, choose a 5 man midfield. Pls let this season end.

Why all the critisism of Harry, he was only telling the truth about Bents miss, a top class striker would have used he's critisism to fire themselves up.

How many of us on Sunday were saying exactly the same Harry?
