It was a night of 'bests' for goal hero David Bentley - with a bit of help from Clive Allen.

The midfielder said it was 'one of the best days of my life' after surely scoring the best goal of his career to date in the 4-4 thriller at the Emirates Stadium.

'Bents' got things going with one of the great derby goals after 13 minutes. The ball was bouncing around in central midfield, Jermaine Jenas managed to chest it down to David who flicked it up and volleyed over Manuel Almunia from a distance later confirmed as 39 yards.

Arsenal scored from set-pieces either side of the break and when Emmanuel Adebayor made it 3-1 after 63 minutes it looked all over at 3-1.

Darren Bent reduced arrears soon after but a minute later Adebayor released Robin Van Persie for 4-2.

The clock showed 88.30 when Jermaine Jenas curled home a cracker to make it 4-3, the fourth official then showed four minutes added time and with the clock now on 93.15, Luka Modric's volley hit the post and Aaron Lennon was there to tap in for 4-4.

"It's probably the best night of my career so far," beamed David at the Emirates. "I'm an emotional wreck at the moment!

"We had a team meeting before the game and Clive Allen actually pointed out that the keeper comes off his line and sometimes right out to the edge of his box. That was still in my head early in the game. The ball sat up and I caught it perfectly.

"I went mad. I get so emotional and that's why we all play football.

"We have all been criticised this season but nights like that, goals like that, performances like that - as I said, it's why we all love football.

"We conceded too many easy goals, we know that and we'll address that. We were 4-2 down but showed character, determination, fight and kept going until the final whistle. We'll get things right, keep progressing and keep getting better."

To see his interview afterwards was great, lets hope he kicks in from here

The memories of last night will be with me for the rest of my life. This is the start of the new glory years.

Hadn't impressed me massively so far with performances or demenour but I don't think anyone can doubt how much he wants to do well for us and thought he was good last night and THAT goal could be a career defining moment for him!

To do that in his first derby and really give it back to those scumbags was brilliant! Loved the way he kept patting his badge when they were giving him the "WHO ARE YA!" chant.

I've heard gooners saying he made a mug of himself in the interview afterwards but thats what its all about isnt it? How joyless can you be to deny someone being excited after scoring a 40 yard goal in his first NLD against the team who discarded him as a teenager and whos fans were barracking him?! We can't all be robots like Wenger and Fabregash. Brilliant!

On a side note how funny was Redknapp (Jamie). As a spurs fan i'm not knocking it but if anyone made himself look a bit of a mug it was him. He didnt have a good word to say about us for the last 4 years and now Daddy's taken over he wants to be Mr Tottenham! If only he'd showed that much passion when he was our captain!!!

I tell you what, I wasn't Redknapps biggest fan as a player but I will always remember one match. Arsenal only needed a point at the Lane to win the titles, and were winning 2-0. Pleat was in charge, we were dire in the first half.

Then in the second half, led by a long maned, unshaven Redknapp looking like a relic from the 70's, we staged a come back which only came to fruition a few minutes from the end when a magnificent Redknapp looking every bit the Spur smashed it home from 25 yards.

Then in the very final minute Keane and Lehmann had a spat, we got a penalty, Keane dispatched it, and even though they had won the leage, we celebrated far more than they did.

I will always retain a soft spot for the moment and that performance for Redknapp. He annoys the hell out of me these days, but I will never forget that.

And that's why we'll all love you if you keep banging them in.:bowdown:

    LEGEND!

Fair point actually BBLG! I was at that game and he could've left worse legacies!!!

I can see why they might be against celebrating goals - if they had done less pathetic dancing after their 4th goal, the whistle would probably have been blown when it was still 4-3!
  8. Riandor
ooh I was at that game as well.

in fact (for my sins) that is the only ever game I have been to at White Hart Lane (yeah sorry, money sucks).

I remember leaving the ground wishing I could go every week.

I hate to say it, but Arsenal were so much better than us in the 1st half, you could see why they won the league that year, but the lads in the 2nd half did brilliantly and showed real spirit, just like last night.

The trick now though is to maintain... we need points from a ton of games now, including against Liverpool on Saturday. You can't fault 2 draws away from home vs Chelsea and Arsenal, but it's the winning at home that has to start becoming a consistent theme.

What did Rednapp do, I was at (an Arsenal) pub.

He said that the Ars* fans were giving him grief then he said he got his own back. They then cut to a shot of him banging on the windows, celebrating, when we equalised and all the goons in front were looking round. Gutted.

    Good TV

The fact the Wenger was so angry, makes the draw even sweeter. The arse fans were taunting us, but they had humble pie stuffed right down their fat gobs
  12. martinsjollyboys
Wenger complained that we had far less shots than them...the stats show 17 for them and 12 for us...not a massive difference. Maybe the numbers are different in French???

    Are Bentley and Nayim related?

    What a goal!!
  14. hotteamtn
Lets hope that those two points cost them dear! a CL place maybe.
