Why does everyone seem to think that Berbatov is going to leave?? Ive been reading forums and been seeing already everyone suggesting replacements. I personally think he will stay as it is all just the media trying to fill up their pages. I do expect stories about Berbs leaving as that is the media being cocks, i blame his stupid agent who keeps stating that Berbatov is happy 'at the moment' giving the impression that he is eventually going to leave and the media capatalising on this. But i do not think he will leave, with the likes of Modric coming to us and us starting to find our feet with winning silverwear i feel Berbs can see what direction we are heading and will want to be a part of this.
I do expect speculation but it just suprises me that some Spurs fans have already lost faith.

This didn't need a new thread.

Why? because we're clearly in the market for a new striker, nobody from the club has laid down the law & it's clear Berbatov wants to go to a bigger club & play in the CL.

Have you heard from Berbatov himself? Has the club officially said we are interested in new strikers?? No, its the Media...

OK mate, you keep believing that.

Bet you said the same when Carrick kept quiet and went to the world cup.

Its the fact that he hasn't said anything that makes it seem he will leave. Berbatov has already said he hates media speculation around him and his football future. If he wanted the speculation to end, he would come out and say, "I am happy at spurs and will be here next season" but he hasn't, probably because he would be lying and he doesnt want to mess the fans around. Thats why i strongly believe he will go.

You obviousley believe everything you read in the media mate.

Carrick was inevitable, young english talent, Manshester United in need of a holding midfielder....As with Berbs being linked to United as you may/would have read in the Media, who is he going to replace? Rooney? Ronaldo? Tevez?....

Looks like we are about to splash over £25 million on Eto'o, thats one reason why I think Berbs has gone, could be wrong though.

It's a realy shame if he does leave.

I'll be happy enough if we got someone of the quality either Eto'o, Kanoute or Gudjohnsen to replace him but it would be much better to try and actually keep a settled team rather than ripping the heart out of it constantly and starting again.

With our current squad (Berbs and Modric included) I reckon with the addition of another left-sided option (preferably a solid left-back ala Nicky Shorey), a defensive midfielder, unavoidably two new goalkeepers and possibly and addition centre back and striker we should have been pretty much set to push on.

In fact Berbatov has spoken.

He has stated clearly in an interview for Max Magazine - given around a month ago and published last week - that he "will speak to Spurs about a transfer at the end of the season".

He's leaving.

Why would you be happy if we got Kanoute back ? surely after Berb's that would be a backward step ?

Sometimes it's better to fear the worst. That way it soften's the blow for when it does happen!

If berb was going to stay then a contract would have been signed a long time ago im afraid...

You obviousley believe everything you read in the media mate.

Not at all, I just know when it's obvious a player's time is up here. His agent has been itching for a move for a while - a last big payout for him, as Berbatov is far and away his most lucrative client. Berba is ambitious and had obviously talked to Jol about his future and the potential to win things and compete in the best tournaments. He gave us another year, but 11th spot and a tin pot trophy that Boro won a few years ago doesn't quite cut it.

There is a lot of bollocks written in the paper, but Berbatov stuff is consistent and there are too many factors to ignore.

We are playing hardball with the pricetag, so that may be a factor - but I do believe there could now be some substance to the Eto'o/swap rumours - if that breaks down I'm not convinced many others will stump up the cash for him, but one thing I believe in my heart of hearts is that he desires CL football and he's not convinced we'll be playing it any time soon.

I'll be sure to bump this thread when he leaves.

Wish you'd posted that earlier!

Good choice of new thread. A completely original, non-discussed topic.
