Not sure if its my age, or another case of the media trying to brainwash me, but this constant commentary from the BBC about this being the 'Best World Cup ever' is getting tiring.
Most of the games since the group stages have been incredibly 'cagey' affairs, nothing like Spain in '82 or Mexico in '86, and the majority have either been decided by a single goal or a penalty shoot-out!
Brazil are exciting to watch, mainly due to the atmosphere and emotion of the players, but aside from the odd spectacular goal, i havent seen an outstanding individual or team performance thus far in the knock-out stages.

    IS it just me?

Well their job is to pull in the punters and today's society is all about everything being the best it can ever be.

To me Argentina '78 was incredible. It must be an age thing because it really made an impression on me and got me properly hooked on football.

Can you imagine the impact of being a Spurs fan and then suddenly having Ricky and Ossie join?

It's been slightly better than the South Africa World Cup - but that isn't saying much. Most of the games have been turgid and boring.

Tell us enough and we'll believe it.

I enjoyed the group stage immensely, and even the second round was pretty good. The Quarter finals were disappointing.
I thought that France, Belgium and Holland only came alive in the last 10-15 minutes when it was almost too late (for Fra and Bel, anyway) and Germany/Argentina had it quite easy after an early goal.

Brazil-Colombia was a farce in my opinion. A real shame. A dirty game that didn't need to be that way. 31-23 in fouls and only 4 yellow cards, all of them were in the final 30 minutes. Referee needed to be stronger and less of a clown. Neymar is now out, James Rodriguez was kicked from pillar to post all game.

No , it's not just you onthetwo. A feast of football it is not.
Too much petty fouling, diving, cheating, playacting.
Indifferent performances from the top teams and players.
Been watching WC's since 1962 so maybe it is an age thing.

So would I be right in thinking you'd say '66 or is that a distant memory!?!

The group stages were great, goals galore, but the knockout states have been dreadful. 5/8 last 16 matches going to Extra Time, and very few goals in the 1/4 finals. Let's hope the semis prove to be better.

England aside it has been great. Also the time zones have been really nice on us (uk at least).

One of the most cynical world cups I've seen. People also seem to be equating end to end, lots of attacking, with good football... which it isn't. Some games are like watching a bleep test with a ball chucked in to confuse it. Also all the social irresponsibility surrounding the game, the preferential treatment of the hosts... disgusting imo.

Mexico 86 was the last genuinely great world cup.

Mexico 86 was my first World Cup and also the best one I've seen for me. Lineker, Maradona, Zico etc. I also think that being young and that most of the players were new to me helped. Most of the world cups in recent years though have been pretty turgid overall and I have definitely enjoyed this one more than those.

So not best ever but pretty damn good!

Japan Korea has been the one I've enjoyed most for whatever reason. The Vangelis track the players walked out too was awesome.

I've really enjoyed the world cup. Not all the matches have been great but they never will be.

I loved watching the USA play. They worked hard, had exciting moments and their fans really got into it in a massive way.

I was really disappointed with the Dutch in the last World Cup as they cheated a lot and they've always been my 2nd team due to the great way they play and how much I like the people. Seeing them get back to great technical football and not fouling all the time.

I've always liked the Germans, sorry, I think they play honestly and love how dedicated they are so it's been nice seeing them doing what they do.

Then there has been the surprise teams. Chile and Costa Rica were great value and a pleasure to watch.

The downsides have been the Brazilians and Argies constantly cheating. Forget the quality of football, nothing entertaining about watching cheats. The officiating has been very poor as well.

So overall it has been a good world cup for me, maybe not the greatest. Really looking forward to the semis as I think it is hard to predict. I'm going for a Germany v Argentina final though I hope the Dutch make it.

See that's it, for me Mexico '86 with campos and his multi coloured kit, maradona, Hugo Sanchez, the Azteca stadium and all these players who most of us had never seen play etc was by far the most eye catching tournament I've witnessed....oh, and England actually done alright which was a bonus!
From an England fans perspective I just don't see how a tournament can be good when your national team doesn't actually perform, I don't remember anything about 94 or 2010!

Holland got through to this round by cheating. Mexico were absolutely robbed by that diving d-bag Robben.

    I didn't say they don't dive. I said they haven't been fouling.

Seeing them commit a lot of tactical fouls and the likes of Van Bommel just being a thug made it like it wasn't like watching Holland anymore.

No way. 1970 was best ever. So many players with exceptional skills, and great teams too. Where are the Pele, Beckenbauer, Charlton, et el? Even 1974 and 78 were better than this year.

I really am enjoying the World Cup... Great to see US, Asia and Africa teams making an impact, not just making up the numbers.

Footballing wise, i felt euro2012 was better, lots more attacking, lots of risk being taken.

Frankly, i fell asleep watching a few matches, including the semis last night... Some games are pretty cagey. Decent tournament so far.

How long do you think you slept for? The semis weren't on last night.
