Giovani Dos Santos admits it was a special moment to score his first goal for the Club since joining from Barcelona last summer.

The Mexican netted to give us hope in the second half of our UEFA Cup Round of 32 second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk at The Lane on Thursday.

But although his blistering left foot strike was not enough to keep us in the competition, ‘Gio' chose to focus on the positives.

After an impressive pre-season, injuries and a lack of First Team games have made it a tough maiden season in England for the 19-year-old.

So opening his account for Spurs was a big lift for the tricky forward, who said: "It feels great to score my first Spurs goal and I'm very happy. It was a big goal for me, my family and my fans.

"I've been working very hard and I was pleased with my performance overall, so I just have to keep that going now. That's the only way to go about it.

"I gave 100 per cent out there and that's what I try to give every time I go out on the pitch.

"I was pleased with the goal and the reaction of the fans."
The only disappointment for ‘Gio' is that his goal was not enough to keep us in Europe, and he added: "It was a difficult game but we had a young team and we did everything we could to get through.

"We just have to be happy with the effort we put in and take that forward into future games."

Try youtube. You won't find the goal there, but you'll find lots of links to pages showing highlights.

How did Gio play last night, apart from his goal?
Did his confidence seem to come back after the goal, as the games he played recently he seems to have been unwilling to take people on?

Me too, infact the last image was the penalty call.
Then I scrambled around and got a decent link and realised
we were 1 nil up, I thought we scored from the penalty !!

He did o.k but he still looked reluctant to run at people and he hardly ever looked to run into the space behind there full backs, quite often there was a lot of space for him to move in ot but instead he would looked for the ball into his feet. he tracked back o.k to be fair and didn't show to many signs of slowing down towads the end of the game. GREAT goal though and he looked delited with it which was nice!

That second link is well out of order. I suggest you remove it. We get minors logging in to this site.

Excuse me? Gio was perhaps the only Spurs player who did run at defenders when he had the chance from the start - have you missed his exciting run from the middle past 2-3 players in the first 10 minutes, when he was brought down with a bad foul in their half?

The problem was he did not get enough of the ball from the back or from central midfield, who seemed to have a one-sided vision towards the left most of the match. On at least two occasions Gio had to run all the way back just to get the ball himself and try from there.
