Tempted to lump £550 on Arsenal to finish in the Top 4 with a possible return of around £950
Wenger always pulls it off and Everton's fixtures are a nightmare.

Also, Henderson to make the world cup squad is 8/13... Surely that's great value?

Did a £20 e/w double on a couple horse races last summer, got me £750.

Also won £135 from £10 on online roulette.

My biggest win was at the Las Vegas International Backgammon Tournament in 2001 when I won 4 events and picked up $50,000. I had to give half of it to a mate though as we had agreed before the tournament to split our winnings. I picked up between $5,000 and $16,000 several times at the same tournament in other years. Also won about £5000 at the World Championships in Monte Carlo and about the same in Velden in Austria.

The most i've ever won on a bet was about £3,500 but i've won £1000 or more dozens of times (mostly on spread bets). Never won more than £2,000 playing poker.

The bet I always remember though was about 30 years ago. I worked weekends at Mecca bookmakers so I had a good grasp of the form at the time. It was my 1st day at Poly and i'd cashed my grant cheque and gone in the bookies and put on a £5 Yankee. Three of the horses won at decent odds and I picked up about £1,800 which was a lot in those days and by far the biggest win i'd ever had, so I went to the pub to celebrate, got shitfaced, and walked out without my jacket which not only had my winnings in it but also my £800 grant :banghead:.

I'm sure this won't go down well, but stop gambling. It's a horrible, corrosive thing that the media has normalised, but which it designed to fuck you over.

For the last ten years I've kept a diary of my virtual gambling scores. My best result was a £2.5k profit on a speculative bet on where Everton would finish. Had I actually placed the bets that I said I would in this diary, I would be down almost £8k.

Like drink or drugs, gambling is fine in moderation, but terribly destructive if it becomes an addiction.

The first thing you need to realise about gambling is that you are probably going to lose. If you accept this and treat it as entertainment that you are willing to pay for and adjust your stakes accordingly then it's not a problem. There are plenty of old boys sitting in bookies up and down the country betting 10p a race. Better that than sitting alone at home and paying for the heating.

Speaking as someone who for many years made their living out of gambling and had plenty of accounts closed by the bookies I can honestly say that i'd have been much better off if i'd worked the hours I put into researching my bets in an average job. I can also say that when you do it for a living it's not fun at all; it just becomes a chore.

That said there are millions of people in this country who look forward to their bingo night or enjoy the occasional trip to the casino and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

There are some forms of gambling though that are specifically designed to exploit people with addictive personalities. Personally i'd ban all online casinos and those slots you get in bookies nowadays. They are the Wonga.coms and the krokodil of the gambling world and they do nothing but harm to our society.

Yes, you shouldn't gamble. You're clearly rubbish at it ;)

I think, in moderation and if you have self control then it's fine. I do, at most, a tenner a week. Most weekends I don't bet at all, unless I'm watching the game and an in play opportunity presents itself

Have some friends who are massively in the hole, £10-15k worth of debts. If you ever start to get worried about gambling, at the first instance, you should seek some form of help

I'm in debt and I've racked up quite large losses but I'm often so close to winning (1 team off a acca or a 90th min goal) so I've borrowed another £20k on top of the £40k I already owe in order to try and win back my losses.

    I'm joking.

£3,800 is my biggest win. Was messing about playing deal or no deal slot machine on Bet365, ended up getting on the jackpot, where you can win between £100-£103K. Pretty happy seeing how it only took £70 to get there :p

P.S. I am a student and it was my student loan that won it for me, so thanks taxpayers :)

I disagree. I think it depends on the person. I've never ever bet anything I couldn't afford to lose and never will. I definitely can feel the addictive nature of it, but I doesn't affect me.

In terms of my biggest wins, I've won over a grand on a couple of accumulators. If you count poker, single biggest win was for over $7k for coming 4th in a big field MTT.

Agree with this, I usually just put £5-£10 a week into my bet365 account, play a few accumulators and maybe a correct score or two.

Any winnings I get I'll withdraw a round number and then whack the rest on roulette. Turned £2.50 into £250 in around 20 mins doing that a few weeks ago :)

I know it's always one result with the accumulators but I was genuinely one result off (Stoke :banghead:) a 12k windfall from a £1 stake on the last day of the season. That hurt.

Haven't played at all for a couple of years, Black Friday basically done for me.
I panicked and withdrew most of my roll (18k) and left myself like 2k to rebuild
