Arry knew how to build a team and a squad and since he left we have adopted a scattergun approach to hiring players which does not work. We have bought players not thinking about how they may fit not only into the system but also how they will work with the current blend in the squad.

...and a scattergun post.

So I'm currently riding a usual wave of Spurs pre-season optimism. I feel we made the right choice in manager,he's young plays football the right way and will get the best out of our squad.

But then I also feel pretty pissed off that our squad is in my opinion such a mess. Since we sacked arry we've sold our best 3 players:VDV,Bale,Modric, we have also lost or ousted one way or another very influential parts of a team that got us to a CL quarter final:King,Corluka,Parker,Defoe...we also broke up a strong spine of experienced internationals and British players who know the PL.

We have since then bought some class players who we still have and can build a good team around: Lloris,Vergthongen,Lamela?,Eriksen etc.

We need to get rid of some of these foreigners who don't have the right attitude and ability e.g. Pauliniho,Ade? Etc and bring in a few more with prem experience Davies is a good start and ones in positions we need to strengthen who will balance the squad.

It's not a disaster but as good a coach as Poch might be he has a bit of a mess of a squad on his hands. Player recruitment is so so key at a club and this director of football shit means we take 1 step forward 4 back time after time.

If Poch is the right man and starts getting performances and results I say get rid of Baldino and bloody leave the manager to it.

COYS,
A pity you did not post this on the Amnesty thread !

Everyone has their opinion and yes I was sad to see Bale and Modric go but lets face it, we would never have kept them much longer anyway and got great prices for them. Them leaving though is not the reason we struggled since a team is made up of 11 players and we were losing to teams that have far weaker players than we have. The tactics selected were just not right and AVB and Sherwood seemed to alienate a lot of players.

New players always take time to adjust and gel wit a team and foreign players need to get used to the style of play in the Premier League as it is very different to Spain and Italy. We have some great talent that just have not yet started clicking but with good management they will come good and I am really excited to see what Poch can do with the team and particularly Lamela as he has a crazy amount of potential (more than Bale ever had IMO) but hasn't been developed as Sherwood took a dislike to him. Also confident he can get Soldado back on track as long as his confidence isn't too low as he could be great for us and provide the edge up front we have been missing for a long time. Looking at what Poch did with his last team, he should have most of the players in place already to play exciting and attacking football.

I also think keeping Baldini would be a good idea as he has great connections and a good eye for talent so we can find some great raw talent through him.

The current situation reminds me of the time when Harry took over.

A decent squad of players with just a couple of positions to fix and a manager to get them playing.
Harry bought in Palacios and Crouch/Defoe and told them to 'run about a bit' and the rest is history.

Poch has already recognised and, hopefully, solved one major issue at LB and is looking at fixing the reserve keeper issue.
In one friendly he has already tried to get us playing quicker, one touch, football so is trying to get them playing.

Any further player acquisitions would be easily funded by sales so I think we are in a really good position at the moment.
I firmly believe that our chances are being underestimated this year and, as we did a few years ago under Harry, we could pull off a surprise 4th place finish.

So much wrong with this, where to begin?

1.) You say that Harry knew how to build a team and mention the important players, however Harry didn't sign Bale, Modric, King, or Corluka. VDV I doubt was actually a target for him and was more of a last minute "scattergun" signing that happened to work out. Defoe was never that good for us and Parker was decent for a season.

2.) Parker didn't get us to a CL quarterfinal, he was signed the season afterward.

3.) Harry made many very poor signings too.

Lets not forget he turned down Suarez. He couldn't pick a striker for shit.

We had to reduce the age of the squad. As for foreigners with poor attitudes, did you see England at the world cup?

COYS,

I disagree with pretty much all of your post. You seem so ill informed that it makes me wonder if you've just sprouted a load of nonsense just to get a reaction from people. :troll:
