The fitness of Jonathan Woodgate and Roman Pavlyuchenko will be assessed ahead of Wednesday night's clash against Middlesbrough at the Lane.

Defender 'Woody' missed Sunday's Carling Cup Final after failing a late fitness test on an Achilles problem while striker Roman has a slight groin injury.

"Woody felt his Achilles on Saturday morning," reported Harry Redknapp at Tuesday's pre-Boro media briefing. "We'll see how he is tomorrow. Pavlyuchenko looks like he has a bit of a groin strain, so again, we'll see how he is tomorrow."

Harry ruled out Ledley King playing a third game in nine days - 'his knee is like a balloon today' - and Jermain Defoe is still out with his damaged foot but Harry revealed that Alan Hutton, out since November, is progressing well and expected back in full training in a couple of weeks.

Carlo Cudicini, Robbie Keane, Wilson Palacios, Pascal Chimbonda and Fraizer Campbell are all available again after being ineligible for Wembley.

Pavlyuchenko is garbage anyhow so maybe Arry's missus should step in with keano up top
  4. nayimfrom50
    Yep, good call.
Except I doubt lenny will start. Bentley will be on the right and if luka is still fucked we'll start jj or ohara left with Hudd central. Either way, good enough... On paper

Just because he's had an off day on Sunday doesn't make him garbage. Fans like you write overseas buys off too soon. Pavlyuchenko has had an ok first season and if given the chance will get better next year.

Well said. The guy hasn't had a break for two seasons solid, yet he has had to adjust to a new country, league, language, team mates all while he is jaded from playing so long without a break. To expect him to set the premier league alight in those circumstances was always an unrealistic expectation.

Despite that he has done pretty well in putting the ball in the net in all competitions, less so the PL but that was always going to be the biggest adjustment.

Judge him at the end of next season when he has adjusted.

well i would think the line up will depend on who is fit and who is not, one player for me who should not be left out and lasted the duration of the game is Zokora, his running with the ball is immense, he really worried United. The way he left Scholes for dead on the left hand side before he was chopped down by O'Shea and the 35 yard run to the edge of United's box followed by a a feint to cross which left Evans out of the game was superb, two of my happy memories of the final. I would just like to see somebody take some of the defensive shackles off Zokora even if it is just for one game, and tell him to run at the opposition as much as possible and lets see what happens, At times i think he remembers his defensive duties to much and passes up the chance to go charging forward? It is an art running with the ball and as the saying goes your quicker running without the ball than with it. on a side note it would be interesting to see over a 100 metres who would be the quickest of the 1st team squad.

Neither Lennon nor Jenas appears to be injured, which is fantastic news. Those two and Modric are definite starters if fit. The fourth midfield place... well Palacios has come in an impressed, but Zokora did have a very good game the other day. Still, I'd like to see Palacios put in there. Up front it has to be Keane and Bent. I'm not a big fan of Bent, while I do like Pavlyuchenko, but at the moment it is Bent who is earning a starting spot.

At the back, if Woody is out, there's always the thought of Corluka going centre back with Dawson and sticking Chimbonda at right back

Agree with BBLG , while I'm really not a fan of Bent , the way Pav played on Sunday surely it should be Bent who gets the nod to play with Keane.

Pav did not play badly at Wembley at all. However, he stood out for a bad miss with a free kick which he is obviously normally good at otherwise would not have stepped up and wouldnt have been allowed to step up.

He also missed the target after a run to the near post for a header.

Neither of the above would Bent have done or attempted because he aint good enough.

I was disappointed that Pav was subbed and not Bent but then I saw that 'arry wanted someone to stay up top to hold the ball up and not wander around creating. Bent did that role quite well on Saturday i.e. hold the ball up.

Bent is very limited whereas Pav has much more artistry but it was 'horses for course' late on on Saturday.

The other issue is that we cannot accommodate Modric properly yet, not with the personnel we have at present.

To put him on the left and then wandering inside is not the best scenario. Second choice is in the hole and that is the change we made at Wembley and that is why Pav came off.

Pav has also carried an injury for 2 or 3 weeks now too so that was also a consideration for the staff.

In hindsight Pav probably would have taken a pen and scored whereas Bent bottled out.

Pav is ok and needs a summer holiday and a second season before he is finally judged.

While I entirely agree with your views on Pavlyuchenko, your obvious irrational hatred of Bent is puerile. You probably don't know that Bent was apparently our fifth penalty-taker (hardly 'bottling out') - but it probably wouldn't make any difference to your rant if you did.

    A) Modric was amazing on Sunday. People kept citing Lennon and even King, but if you go back and watch, Modric's name is mentioned more than anyone...it was like the Modric Show

B)Please DO go back and watch and PLEASE explain to me in what way Bent 'bottled' his penalty.... I would be much interested to hear your theory how a man can do so when he does not take a penalty.

    agreed :)

Got to go with two up front at home and Charlie as CB

I am not a Bent's fan and i will always have Pav ahead of Bent all the time but i spoke to a few people not Bent about the penalty issue, i gather that Bent was down to take the 5th penalty.
