Boro refute Downing exit talk

    Middlesbrough are not contemplating selling Stewart Downing in the January transfer window.

    The England international winger is rumoured to be a target for Tottenham boss Martin Jol, but Boro are not considering selling the 22-year-old.

    "We've had no contact from Tottenham, nor do we expect any," Boro chief executive Keith Lamb told The Sun.

    Downing has been one of Boro's better players so far this term and it would appear that he figures prominently in manager Gareth Southgate's thoughts.

    "Stewart has a big part to play in our future plans," declared Lamb.

    Spurs are on the fringe of the European places and Jol would appear keen to add to his options.
    Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini is rumoured to be a target for the Dutchman, with reports suggesting the player's agent has held talks with the Galician club over a possible move.

    He had a chance to come to us and turned it down. Then his form went into freefall.

    Leave him in the North East. He didn't want to move from that part of the world last summer and I'd be concerned if he did come down south he'd get homesick and we'd end up with an unhappy and underperforming player.

    I really cannot see how this guy is rated so highly, every time i have seen him play he is at best average and I do not think that we would enhance the squad by taking this guy from Boro.
    Yes he can cross a decent ball, but then so could Andy Reid !!
    However please feel free to prove me wrong.

    I think the bloke is a complete tosser who has some kind of inner hatred for Tottenham Hotspur, He must have because anyone else would of dropped everything to sign for us and leave a club like boro who are only looking to stay afloat in the Premiership with no real aspirations
