9) Pochettino thought he was about to get sacked during his first season

Spurs went to Villa Park in November 2014 having collected just 14 points from the first 10 games, and so Pochettino can be forgiven for feeling pessimistic when the team were 1-0 down with eight minutes left on the clock.

“I turned to face the dugout. I looked at Toni, Jesus, and Miki [his assistants] and told them, ‘Lads, pack your bags tonight, because tomorrow we’re going home.’”

Spurs scored two late goals to win the match 2-1, but it just goes to show there is a thin line between success and failure in football.

I remember this game so well. What a catastrophe it would have been, had Kane not scored that free kick. The clear relief on Poch and Perez faces was unbelievable. In my life time of supporting (mid to late 80's onwards)spurs Poch is far and away the best thing to happen to the club.

Was an awful game and we were struggling to beat a terrible terrible Aston villa, looked like we may lose in fact.

But I don't think he would've been sacked if we had lost

Perhaps Poch could ask Levy for an honest answer and put it as an addendum to the book.

I remember following that game on here on my phone on the way back from Helsinki. The flight had wifi and just as we landed remember shouting "get in" and shouting to the back of the plane where my Villa hating Blues fan (one for all you tautology fans) was sitting.

However, he does not believe the situation was a distraction, since “twenty players out of our twenty-five-man squad are coveted by other clubs”

Who are the unlucky 5?

N'koudou
Vorm
Gazanigga
Sissoko
Foyth

I don't think that was a scientific statement that you should take literally.

I bet there are plenty of clubs across Europe who'd like sissoko. Especially with him being a key squad players for a team that has so far made the CL group of death look about as hard as the as the Johnstones paint trophy

Finished it last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Never thought I would love the man more than I do but this book made it happen.

About half way through, but it's great. A great insight into the man.

Great insight into Poch and a good read but nothing we really didn't know, and certainly nothing that will cause a squad melt down.

He's much more new-agey than I expected. If he was someone else's manager, some of the stuff he comes out with would be mockery fodder, let's be honest. Or certainly at a different time - his comment on auras would have had him sacked from the national job not too long ago.

But as others have said, it's really interesting so far, even tho the paper stories have basically broken all the juicy stuff. It's a far better, less contentious read, unsurprisingly, in context.
