Any honest assessment would have to acknowledge that we massively rode our luck in that one. Between the completely unnecessary penalty that Murray conceded and the half-dozen opportunities that went begging at the feet of Knockaert, that could have been a very, very different match.

Despite that there were encouraging signs. Putting his missed chance at the end aside, that was the first time in months that Kane has looked like himself -- turning defenders to get one-on-one with the keeper, getting quick shots away, generally looking like the goal hungry monster that he is. The fact that a number of his best moments came in the last twenty minutes of the match is especially encouraging given that so much of his lack of form is can be explained by injury and fatigue. Beyond just Harry, Rose is also progressing toward getting back to his best, and so too does Lamela look like he's recapturing his best form. If those three get back to their top level we're a different animal.

The midfield is still clearly a problem area. Absolutely fell to pieces in the first twenty odd minutes of the second half when Brighton were pressing us. It absolutely has to be addressed in January, I don't give a fuck how difficult the market is. Our season will live or die on whether we can shore it up.

Very important win. Patchy at times but better overall performance, need to back it up by beating Huddersfield and Cardiff and then push on from there. Happy we moved back to 4-2-3-1, the options for the 3 behind Kane are fantastic.

I'm very happy that he was closer to his best in the last ten minutes, but that doesn't matter a jot when he just had to take the ball into the corner.

If it was 2-1 then maybe but we were 2-0 with about 90 seconds remaining. I dont blame him one iota. I would if it was 2-1 and would totally agree with you.

Our defending at times is calamitous and Rose falling over doesnt help. I think once Lloris comes back we will be much more assured at the back.

In fairness to Brighton, they have a habit this season of scoring late goals so them scoring wasn't much of a surprise

Good to see Kane getting some shots away at last, hasn't done that nearly enough this season.

I don't understand why some people would seemingly rather Kane was anonymous than trying shots that didn't quite come off, but forced decent saves and on another day would've been scored.
You are missing my point: I wouldn't mind if he had done that when we were 3-0 up.

A lot of that was down to Brighton not sticking men behind the ball, but I agree. If we are going to play Son and Moura on the flanks then we need more creativity from the centre of the park.
Yeah the game was a lot more open at that point so hard to judge, i just prefer AM's to WF's Give me a give and go over a tricky bit of wing play any day...

WTF, more of this Moura affecting Kane shit.

Would Moura of scored the last chance...hmmm

Kane had 3 shots all directly at the keeper.. Another poor and laboured performance. Sharp - my arse
Agree- I’m sure they’re capable of being on the pitch the same time. Lamela’s business and the second goal energised him, not Moura coming off

It’s time to put some faith in Erik Lamela, and start him for a bunch of games in a row, regardless of performances, and see how he does.

I love him. It baffles me how he is still battling for a starting place.

But they got back to 2-1 and almost got a 2-2. Moreover, we screwed up a clean sheet.

Not a vintage performance but good enough. Thought Alderweireld and Dembele had very good games.

Well, in the position we are in, dropping two points would have been disastrous.
I agree but we were 2-up with seconds to go. Now if he'd have done that in an KO game with a slender lead then I would have been pissed. Anyway, it's not his fault the defence and midfield decided to go all kamikaze and push right up the field.

So lets get this straight.

Kane has his first shots on target from open play in about five years and people are moaning at him for shooting...o_O

Can't make it up.

I think it's fitness related rather than a question of form. He's been fantastic nearly every time he's played this season, but we all know how injury-prone he is. I think he's just being managed to make sure that he doesn't have a recurrence of his muscle injury.

To be fair Liverpool were the same last week against us. A firing Kane would have sealed it for us then, he's just warming up.

Agree on Harry, great to see him back in and around the box getting shots off. But we need to kill games off when we get the chance.
