We look kinda nervous at times.
Kane should have killed the game.
Lamela deserves to start.

Hopefully we can build on this.

So lets get this straight.

Kane has his first shots on target from open play in about five years and people are moaning at him for shooting...o_O

Can't make it up.

Let's all celebrate that our striker has had some shots lol

It's a start and an improvement but a SHARP Kane puts a couple of those away.

Any honest assessment would have to acknowledge that we massively rode our luck in that one. Between the completely unnecessary penalty that Murray conceded and the half-dozen opportunities that went begging at the feet of Knockaert, that could have been a very, very different match.

Despite that there were encouraging signs. Putting his missed chance at the end aside, that was the first time in months that Kane has looked like himself -- turning defenders to get one-on-one with the keeper, getting quick shots away, generally looking like the goal hungry monster that he is. The fact that a number of his best moments came in the last twenty minutes of the match is especially encouraging given that so much of his lack of form is can be explained by injury and fatigue. Beyond just Harry, Rose is also progressing toward getting back to his best, and so too does Lamela look like he's recapturing his best form. If those three get back to their top level we're a different animal.

The midfield is still clearly a problem area. Absolutely fell to pieces in the first twenty odd minutes of the second half when Brighton were pressing us. It absolutely has to be addressed in January, I don't give a fuck how difficult the market is. Our season will live or die on whether we can shore it up.
We've got to occasionally target, and sign top quality players otherwise we'll fall away from the top 4 who are doing that.

The need this summer was a CM and we should have gone big.

Yes the prices for players are ridiculous but that's the market we are in.

Gazzaniga looks so much more assured then vorm. For a back up keeper he gets injured a hell of a lot

Glad to see Redknapp back in the studio. He hadn’t been on tv for a while and it was getting weird as to why.

I’d pick Rose over Davies but we need to get in a better LB over both of them.
I watched Tierney the first time the other night and I was impressed. Our fullbacks are incredibly important to howe we wish to play so I really hope Rose can get back to his best.

That ending was almost peak Spursy. Going from Kane alone in and missing to Brighton scoring and us giving away another chance for Brighton to score again.

As ever he does some stuff very well but some of his decision making scares me - although to be fair he's not the only player to do that.

Our full backs have gone from being one of our major strengths to something of a concern (Trippier got turned more times than I want to recall) but I'm not sure if that's more down to formation and rotation than the personnel themselves?

4 away games, 2 home (ish), 4 wins, can't complain about that

Just a shame we didn't keep a clean sheet in the end. Given the circumstances though I'm just glad we won. The passing was so much better too.

The only positive I can really take from that game in terms of players was Lamela and dare I say it Dembele.

Great to get the 3 points.

Worrying how close we came to not getting the 3 points. We need a stronger mentality to close out matches.

Strange game

  1. Absolutely not convinced Toby should be starting ahead of Sanchez. I just prefer Sanchez coming out with the ball but he is happy being the last man and knowing it's his job
  2. People saying Lucas is impacting Kane ... If that's the case then Kane needs to adapt. Lucas is finally that xfactor we been missing
  3. Lamela needs to start. I love Dembele but I think Lamela needs to start ahead of him or ahead of Dier
  4. I thought Dier was better today
  5. Defender's are a bit dumb ... If you are tired, stop bombing forward... Danny rose!!!!

Completely agree. The market will undoubtedly be difficult but all we need is to make one fucking signing, and to get it right. We're one of the ten most wealthy clubs in world football, we can absolutely afford to go get a first XI-quality CM in even if it means we have to pay over the odds.

That was good stuff. We were much more willing to put in a shift and do it with purpose. We can't expect to overrun everyone, especially in a spell of bad form, and we did well to hang on in the period before the 2nd goal.

I reckon Poch is emphasizing bravery on the ball - demanding everyone, and not just Dembele, accept possession in tight situations and play your way out of pressure. No better example of that than the lead up to the goal. We drew on their press, played through it, and scored a peach. Good win to nudge us up the table.

Eriksen needs to sharpen up though. On more than one occasion he dwelled on the ball and allowed a player to come in and barge him off the ball. His passing in advanced positions is a little off too. I don't know why he's a bit of a slow burner but it's incredibly frustrating as we would look much better in the final third and we lose points early in the season because of it (not entirely down to him of course)
