It goes against what I would normally say as it would leave us without pace but I'd be very tempted to go with Lamela, Dele and Eriksen behind Kane. We looked better going forward when Dele and Lamela came on than we have done at any other stage in the season, even if it was brief.

The only positive I can really take from that game in terms of players was Lamela and dare I say it Dembele.
I thought Kane came on strong, started to look like Kane of the last few years. Rose is re-asserting himself as the #1 LB. Vertonghen is ageless. Dele looked frisky when he came on as a sub. Gazzaniga looks like a capable back-up.

Poch wasn't wearing the stupid suit.

Several positives to take from the match if you look.

It really doesn't. Brighton offered fuck all for the vast majority of the game.

3-0 with what we created second half would of been about right, at the very least.

Hughton got that game all wrong. If they'd pressed us early I think they would of given us trouble like they did for the first 20 minutes or so of the 2nd half. Pretty sure if they had we'd of crumbled.

In any case we only got in front and wrecked their game plan because of an idiotic handball by Murray. We'd looked pretty ordinary up to that point with tons of boring sideways and backwards passing.

Needed that. Tough place to go but the weird slackness is still there across the team. Erik and Dele looked lively when they came back. Harry showed signs he's on his way. Three points. Let's move forward...

Completely agree. The market will undoubtedly be difficult but all we need is to make one fucking signing, and to get it right. We're one of the ten most wealthy clubs in world football, we can absolutely afford to go get a first XI-quality CM in even if it means we have to pay over the odds.
Completely agree with you. The club should be making the move right now, I don't want to see us missing out on any more players because we were outbid. It was mentioned that it's not our style to pay agents and be messed around, well, sorry, but it's not how it used to be and we may need to make exceptions to get deals done.

Some people are easier pleased than others it would seem.
How you can add Rose whose defending (he is a defender you know) in the positives is beyond me.
Gazzaniga looked better than Vorm but still had shaky times from crosses
Dele had some nice flicks (as he normally does) but actually did very little

Son, Eriksen, Kane woeful again.

Points were more important than style.

Did you take a nap during the first twenty-five minutes of the second half, then? They were all over us, and only piss-poor finishing from Knockaert prevented them from drawing level. Even beyond his missed one-on-one chance, there were five or six times when he got into great positions only to sail the cross over everyone's head or check back onto his other foot and allow our defenders to get reorganized.

Yes, when Lamela came on and we scored the second we had a period of dominance, but we were extremely fortunate that the scoreline hadn't changed before Poch made the sub.

I only remember one big chance that fell to him and he prodded it straight at Gazza.

Yes they pressed better and made a game of it for about 15 minutes but we created far more thereafter. We controlled the game All of first half where they hardly had a passage of play. And for the last half an hour we could of scored 4.

So overall, we should of won much more comprehensively.

Your assessment was hyperbole imo.

Agree entirely.
Just some on here are getting a bit too excited over what was another ordinary display that could of ended in another Spursy event.

It was a poor display in my view BUT there were more positives in this game than in any other game barring the Manure second half, Confidence and form doesnt come at the press of a button. It gradually comes and hopefully it has started and should beat Huddersfield which will help us further going into Barcelona - who I am sure are quaking in their boots ;)

I'm inclined to agree with your point. If they had a go earlier I think we would have had trouble. The midfield shield is flaky at best & Dier tends to really struggle when in close combat situations. If we get the midfield sorted in Jan, and right now it seems a BIG if, then we can cope better when we get teams that press us higher up. Overall our midfield is the main thing that is letting us down. If we are going to push wingbacks as your main part of your system, then you need midfielders that can fill the void. Their goal was systemic for not having that.

It was Brighton who parked the bus for 45 minutes. As soon as they pressed we started to look very shaky.

Last 20 minutes prior to their goal was good.

The playing out from the back leaves me feeling ill. It was awful vs Inter and not great at times today,

And what particular move could have led to that?
