Cheryshev has scored 2 goals per game so far this world cup. That's a better scoring rate than any player in the top 5 leagues last season. Sign him up! :ROFLMAO:

Coys200 - "Let's put an offer in for Ronaldo"

Not even sure that’s as ridiculous as it sounds if he were willing to take reasonable wages( which he likely wouldn’t). What actually are his options if he did leave. Can’t imagine he’d take the USA/China route yet. PSG just scrapped FFP and he wouldn’t want to compete with Neymar for Number 1. Bayern maybe not sure. Then it’s PL obviously united would be number 1 option. Would have to be a CL team city and Liverpool seem unlikely with united ties. So just leaves us London club which he’d love spotlight, top 3 last 3 seasons and brand new stadium. Clearly it’s very very unlikely but he really doesn’t have a load of options. I guess it would have to be united. But it’s not as ridiculous as him going to West Ham. If it wasn’t for wages, credibility wise I think he’d consider it. Ossie and Ricky seemed just as far fetched in 78.

I remember Liverpool signing Phil Babb from Coventry after a reasonable showing in the '94 World Cup for Republic of Ireland.

They paid a British record for a defender at the time to secure him.

He turned out average at best.

Always remind myself this before getting too carried away with linked players post impressive tournaments.

Off the top of my head, players we've signed off the back of good performances at international tournaments:

Zokora
Pavyluchenko
Paulinho
Yedlin
Sissoko

Nothing wrong with buying players that gain attention in an international tournament as long as it is balanced with researching their club form too. While sometimes it works out well, I've seen too many players shine for their country and when signed somehow never manage to perform even close to that level. I think it is really just a good platform to point at players that might be worth looking at.

The footballing landscape has changed massively, it’s not like years ago where clubs wouldn’t know about some of the African, South American or even Eastern European players and the World Cup would throw up some hidden gems. We have scouting networks in every corner of the world and 3 impressive games in Russia won’t have us chasing an unknown player.

Agree, in the modern game we would not have got Ardiles.

England England England. I can't believe how negative we use the ball sideways sideways backwards backwards. All the football we play is basically in our own half. Why can't we play football in the opposition half...it's laughable

Still the biggest stage by a country mile. RLC has 15 good minutes tonight and suddenly he’s the best thing since sliced bread. That just wouldn’t happen in a subs appearance in the CL. However much scouts know it’s still hugely influential. And can guarantee big money will be spent off the back of this tournament.

Stand by Morocco been very good. Incredibly unlucky to have 0 pts. Very good technical players. A lot of them remind me of Mahrez, seem very nimble with slight builds.

That same club also spent crazy fees on El-Hadji Diouf & Salif Diao after Senegal had the decent WC showing in 2002. They were shit.
