Have we got room for another 200 pages of hope only to be dashed on page 201?

We should probably just change this to a general 'takeover' thread.

So......

Maybe there is hope.

If we don't get an owner that puts us in a position to regularly compete for the top four, we're just making up the numbers.

Football is fucked. I know life-long Everton, Villa, and Newcastle fans that are increasingly indifferent to football. There needs to be a chance of success, otherwise the sport loses all sense of competition. You look at the history of English football and you see different clubs becoming successful over and over again, until Murdoch strangled the life out of the sport and an elite being established. We either compete with the elite, or our support becomes nothing more than a number of consumers funding our place as also rans.

Sports is a business. Some clubs have taken advantage of the increasing money in football and others have not. Things change. Its up to the clubs to change too or else they'll get stuck behind. You need an owner that doesnt hold the club hostage like Lerner, Ashley, the Oystons, etc. The reason clubs are getting stuck behind is not because of Murdoch, Sky or the TV money. It's because of the failure to adjust with the times. Blaming tv is just taking the easy way out and not getting to the root of the problem. It's just like a normal business, business owners need to be proactive and get on the forefront of change, in order to keep upwith their competitors.

salary caps are used in the States to keep the big market teams from dominating, except in baseball, and they work pretty well. I doubt you could ever implement that in Europe unless UEFA and all of Europe agreed.

I reckon we should form a break away league for the average team. We'd probably win that every year. The top 4 wouldn't then be able to sustain themselves on 8 games a season and would come begging to join - but this time it would be on our terms e.g. a wage cap etc.

Cl has distorted the market. It has created global teams that are far bigger than there competitors. Since they are the only ones to compete for trophies, they will attract the most fans. Making them even bigger.

You talk about business. Have you not seen the big global businesses destroy the smaller competitors? Amazon being a global player can base itself in luxemborg so it pays zero tax. It is so big it can get beneficial terms from publishers. How can a small bookshop compete?

Absolutely spot on, going into a competition knowing full well you've got no chance is demoralising to say the least and I've felt more and more indifferent to football over the last 10 years or so as a result of the elitism through sugar daddy money to the point where I sometimes don't even look at the results!

We're spurs. We'd be upper midtable in whatever league we play.
If there was a league to decide the most mediocre team in the world we'd finish 6th. We are that mediocre.

Would that be the same spurs team that was leading the table with a few games to go then imploded with gutless performances, and finally slipped to sixth in true spurs style.
