What does a team get from winning this cup or the FA Cup?
How does it help them.progress?
Here's what I think.
The immediate financial benefits are insignificant in comparison to EPL an CL.
However people forget that the team you support usually gets decided when you are a child and the majority go for whoever is the most succesful. If you ask a child if he wants to support Arsenal or Spurs they'll probably ask what have they won. If you then tell them we won this 'worthless cup' 10 years ago and won fk all since but we did finish in top 4 3 times that will mean nothing to them but tell them you won fa cups, league cup and are in cl most years that will mean something to them
So size of future fan base.
The prestige and world recognition. While not massive it still does a lot to get your brand recognised around the world and you're mentally recognised as winners, not finished 4th, WINNERS.
Then theres money from sponsorship deals. Any shirt, stadium naming rights, etc will be far more appealing to businesses for a team that has had more recogntion and exposure than a team that hasn't had jack shit for 10 years. Even if those sponsors arent directly involved in cup sponsorship it still adds to the brand recognition.
Then theres bringing in players. Join team A who never win anything or Team B who have won cups. No they haven't won the league but players want to win things.
So I'm sorry to piss on some peoples parade but winning does matter even if the immediate benefits aren't obvious and frankly we sound like we're just jealous by dismissing these cups like 'who cares.'

Those cups were devalued when the Sky big four had other fish to fry.

Man United got an FA Cup sick note one year to play in a different meaningless trophy and themselves and Arsenal
put out second string teams (or did they) in earlier rounds.

The money was on the table for the Champions League qualified teams and Sky tv was the piper playing the tune.

Fergie and the other big managers even refused to release their club players for international games (albeit sometimes meaningless)

Anyone disregarding or looking down on this cup is simply an absolute div.

Regardless who's in the final, we would be buzzing to get there again. Please don't let your bias cloud judgement.

Not sure anyone is disregarding it as such, it's just fucking tiresome when people post shit like:

"their manager is a winner, some fans just don't respect that and just take piss but until Poch starts winning things, Wenger is the better manager and Poch is no where near the status some fans give him of sir bill and wont be until he starts to win things."

Just because Arsenal get to a Carabao cup final. It's just petulant ranting.

Not in terms of our season. But we've been a better side than them for the past three to four years and in that time they still finished above us twice and have won three, possibly four trophies. Yet their fans act like they're washed up and we all act like we've just won the league, when really our only achievement over them has been one top four finish and being in the CL this year. That's why it continues to amaze me that they slag off Wenger.

Our situation is totally non comparable to Arsenal's

Completely agree. Anyone who engages in the argument that includes, or a version of "Poch hasn't won anything etc" clearly doesn't see the bigger picture.

Particularly in view of the fact that when we won the same cup it was a 'worthless Worthington cup' or whatever over worthless moniker it became.

This - From a team that counts Charity Shield victories as trophies and tries to add the 'Inter Cities Fairs Cup to its trophy cabinet despite it not being recognised by by UEFA

It's difficult , but I honestly don't think we have the squad to cope with getting to the later stages of the League Cup at the moment. Just think IF we hadn't messed up against West Ham, we would have had to win at Arsenal in the week before the Xmas programme, then play a 2 legged SF against Chelsea in January( and win) and then have a Final against Man City( and win) at the end of February in the misddle of our Juventus tie and which would have led to cancellation and re-scheduling of league fixtures. I think if we had progressed in the CC it would have been at the expense of our(good) recent league form and future chances in the PL,CL and FA cup and something has to give as our squad stands at the moment.

I think for the 'Big 6' the value of winning the League Cup is directly related to how well they perform in the league. I don't think Arsenal will see it as particularly valuable if they are winners but end the season in 6th. On the other hand, if they win it and finished 2nd, then the cup win means a lot more.

From our own perspective, finishing in the Champions League positions is, in my opinion, more valuable to us right now. Finishing 7th but winning the League Cup would not be a great outcome for me. On the other hand, finishing 3rd or 4th and winning the League Cup would probably be our best season in nearly 30 years.

Does anyone else see the words Carabao Cup and have to sing it in their head to Carribean Queen by Billy Ocean?

Just me then.

I saw the grass being cut at Wembley at lunchtime today.

Thankfully my old lady was in bed and didn't see that because she has been going on at me to get ours done.

Way too early in the year.

i'm just hoping Man City win. Cant stand either but if Arsenal win it'd be a nightmare. If Arsenal lose theres so much gloating material about them. Can rely on Walker to funnel the Spurs dislike of Arsenal, so at least one player will be firing on a cylinder.
