Aleñá: Tottenham well placed to sign Barça midfielder

Carles Aleñá is yet to sign a new contract at Barcelona, and Mauricio Pochettino is keen to take him to the Premier League. He could move for just €3m this month.

Carles Aleñá has not yet renewed his contract at Barcelona, opening the door to potential suitors for the La Masia graduate.

Aleñá: Tottenham in prime position

There are many clubs interested in Aleñá, but Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur are among the best placed to secure his signature.

Tottenham would offer the 19-year-old midfielder a place in the first team squad. Aleñá has already tasted first-team action with Barça, making his debut in April 2017 as a substitute for Ivan Rakitic in an away victory at Granada. Barcelona have been keen to extend his contract for some time, and new coach Ernesto Valverde shares that desire. Yet the Azulgrana will have to offer Aleñá something more concrete than words.

Aleñá’s contract with Barcelona expires on 30 June 2018. As his current deal enters its final year on 1 July, his release clause will rise from €3m to €12m. Yet if a club were to swoop before the end of June, he would leave for a pittance.

Barcelona need to move quickly

Aleñá’s departure would represent a blow for La Masia, at a time when the much-heralded youth set up is suffering. Jordi Mboula signed for Monaco last week, while Eric García, a 16 year old represented by the same agents as Aleñá, is ready to pack his bags and move to Manchester City. Barcelona must move quickly to avoid losing a third jewel from their youth setup.

The player stated yesterday that he wants to “relax” before beginning to “think about what to do”. There will be a definitive outcome within the next few days, but the danger for Barcelona is that a phone call arrives from Mauricio Pochettino.

Rumour dead already lol

Mauricio Pochettino's desperate attempt to sign Carles Alena
  • Barcelona's young midfield starlet will sign a contract extension at Camp Nou
  • The Tottenham boss promised him first team football but he will not leave
Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has made a last ditch effort to convince Carles Alena to sign for the English side. Alena, before the B team were promoted on Sunday, was doubtful over whether or not he should continue at Barcelona, but in the end has decided to renew his deal.

Pochettino made an attempt to sign him and promised him first team football at White Hart Lane, the same as Newcastle's Rafa Benitez did.

However Alena has shown he is a Cule and wants to succeed at Barcelona. Luis Enrique gave him some minor action and now we must wait to see what Ernesto Valverde's plans are for him.

Dunno if I would bother posting anyone we get linked to in any rag or online rag. Seems like a waste of bandwidth and an excercise in futility.

Every window we get linked to a new Barca youngster, and every window we don't signe one. I wonder if we even have scouts in Spain these days.

Highly rated, would love the kid, could blossom into the D.Silva/Mata type eventually.

Barca will probably want a buyback clause in any deal, providing this whole thing isn't complete horse...

Even with a release clause? Surely they can't command that?

This one's so random it's surely just an agent stirring the pot?
Yeah, but the Agents are Puyol and De la Pena. both those guys are friends of Poch and if you remember they had that visit last year to the training ground.

However, reports of a new barca contract have already come out. The new contracts are getting faster when our name is mentioned. Used to go on a few days before we heard news. Not too fussed about this kid. Though he looked technically good he also looked slow...and thick.

But, but, but he's 'the best talent to come out of Barcelona for years!' ;-)

Just to be clear I re-read my post and realized 'thick' may be misunderstood. He looked thick in the Charlie Adam way not the English slang way. Wow, I guess that could be misinterpreted as well since CA is a fatassed numpty. I meant the kid could used a Poch-season or two.

Yep. After Barca B won promotion two days ago, Alena said in his post match interview that "I have told my agent not to talk to other clubs, because I want to stay here". This is an absolute no-goer, sadly. AS is a Madrid paper, btw. Not very trustworthy when it comes to Barcelona, to say the least.

he has just come and said he is not listening to any offers and wants to stay at barca, so unless they want rid he will stay, also once he goes in his lat year of contract whic i believe is july 1st, the clause states the buyout price is 11M odd euros, so if barca do want to get rid they will wait for sure... any way this is paper / media rubbish ... any young decent player with potential and who is spanish will automatically get a Poch link stupid media story to it.

And I'm guessing Poch is cool with it as it helps his friends leverage a better deal with Barca for their client.
