His first goal, VS Ajax

Anybody else seen much of this guy? Rangers bagged him in the summer for less than £3m, and it seems to be an absolute snip! The guy was a big part of the Osasuna team of last season that did so well in the UEFA Cup.

I've seen his a good half a dozen times, and every single time he has been my man of the match. I watched his full debut for Rangers (a Champions League qualifier) and he was absolutely class. He stands out as a class above most defenders in Scotland, even from the Old Firm teams.

Really think we missed the boat on this lad. Anyone else seen much of him, and if so, would you agree that he would do a good job for us? He's also 26, so not someone who would ideally have needed to be next to an experienced CB ala Kaboul or Dawson.

I also think Alan Hutton at right-back is classy, but this post's about Cuéllar :)

Would be nice to think we could blag him Boumsong style, though I'd hope he'd fair a tad better in the EPL than Boumsong did

Cuellar is a pretty decent player indeed, but if Ramos does decide to make a foray to Scotland in January he should come back down the road with Allan Hutton, the Rangers right back and Scott Brown, the Celtic midfielder.

Do not be put off by these guys being Scottish. Both will, be top, top players.

tartanspur :) I think I love you

I started a thread not too long ago about creating your own Spurs team, football manager style. I suggested Hutton at RB, Scotty Brown in CM, and since then, I've decided I'd quite like Cuellar too!

Hutton = feckin' brilliant :hump:

from those 3 players the one that clearly caught my eye was Hutton. I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say he has more than 2 lungs as it appears to be when you see him running all day long back and forth in that RB position. Watch the game against Stuttgart, he was very impressive going forward.

Christophe, as I'm sure you've seen him play more than I've had (thans to your girlfriend), is he more solid defensively than Chimbonda? It's pretty clear he's better when running forward and can put great crosses but I don't know how good he's at the back.

Wow, you guys do take notice of me :)

I've watched Hutton 6 or 7 times this season. In his first game, he was a complete plonker and got himself 2 bookings in a minute! Ever game since then (probably 4 or 5 Rangers matches and 2 Scotland) he's been very, very good both going forward and defending. Strong in the tackle, he actually understands that as a rightback, he does have to get back too (take note Mr. Chimbonda). From what I gather, he was a talented youngster who no one was quite sure if he'd make it big, but this season he has really come out of his shell. My Rangers supporting buddy would sing his praises weekly on the bus to uni last year, so he can't have been that bad.

Going forward seems to be what he's great. He makes brilliant over lapping runs from deep, and is always giving his winger options. Great crosser of the ball too.

I'm sure tartanspur100 could add some extra info, as he will have probably seen his more than myself

As a season ticket in the govan at Rangers,i must confess Hutton is a class act ,this season.Since Smith return he been a different player he kicked Celtic off the park a few weeks ago and against Barca he showed he could defend against good oppostion. He loves a tackle and got a great cross. If only Stevie smith was fit on the left he really could do a job for spurs at left back.
Now for Scott Brown, thsi player is the real deal IMHO.He will be a start in the future once he leaves the spl.
As for Cuelluar hes a good defender but lack real pace,he always seems to get away with it a the last minute.

It's amazing some of the talent that is popping up in Scotland. Scottish football went through a real lean spell, but out of nowhere, players like Boruc, Hutton, Cuellar and Scott Brown appeared, and have really put the credibility back in the SPL in my opinion.

Scottish football, both at International level and club level is really on the up, and it's great to see.

 You are joking, right? Boruc is a class act; one of the best keepers in europe.

McGregor is nowhere near as good .

yeah,im joking Boruc is making a mistake nearly every week.
Look at the goals hes let in this year. The goals against hibs and gretna being prime examples.
As for him being one of the best keepers in europe, why is he still at Celtic. If Sunderland were prepared to bid 9 million for for Gordon, why not buy Boruc.
Celtic would have snapped there hand off for 6 million IMHO.
The sold the superstar Petrov, quickly enough, who was supposely world class and seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth at villa.
Ive seen a lot of McGregor and his weakness is,that he doesnt commmand his area enough. Boruc seems to lack
concentration that why he lets in silly goals. He get away with because of the oppostion in the spl.
I can name 20 keepers better than him.

Go for it :)

From what I've seen of Boruc I rate him quite highly. Yes, he's made a few errors (like the ones against Grenta and Hibs, as you said), but in typical Boruc fashion, he put in an awesome performance in the next match (vs Dundee I think it was).

Out of interest, who do you rate higher?

Gordon,Robinson,Cech,Given,Fredial,Van der sar,James,Kahn,Green,Liverpool goal,Layenman.Buffon,schafer(Stuggart),Hildebrand,Stekelenburg(Ajax)Timmer(feyenord)Walterman Az.DIDA(MILAN),vades(barca)casillas madrid.

Thats off the top of my head.He looks good because he plays in the spl,Robinson would be Gordon Banks against Dundee.
Look at his record against Rangers and top quailty oppostion.I fear Mcgeady and Scott Brown and McDonald.I know he makes a mistake in every old firm game and he hasn`t let me down lately.

Keepers are just so hard to judge. Eintracht's old faithful Nikolov, relegated to second-string this season, was totally unbelievable against Bayern last weekend.
