Edinson Cavani has reportedly turned down an offer of €1m to allow Neymar to take penalties for Paris St-Germain.

According to El Pais, Cavani was offered the payment in a bid to stop further issues between himself and Neymar, after the pair squabbled over set-pieces last weekend.

It is reported that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been in talks with Cavani and his representatives in a bid to reach an agreement, while €1m is the amount the striker would receive if he finished as the club's top scorer.

SERIOUSLY they want to pay him not to take penalty's

Gotta love modern day football.

With financial bonuses like the above it is no wonder it takes weeks to agree deals.

The sooner FFP actually get some teeth and start deducting serious points for financial irregularities the better. I mean 10-20 points a season not a fine, which is such a ludicrous punichment.

Cavani will be gone in the summer if this continues. Can't upset the new Golden Boy. A couple of weeks ago Dani Alves took the ball from him and gave it to Neymar when they had a free-kick at the edge of the box.

This all comes from a Spanish newspaper who are still pissy about Neymar going. Pinch of salt imo.

If true, so much for the adage that no one man is bigger than the club - doesn't seem to apply to Neymar these days.

Yeah that annoyed me.

Neymar and his chi, Alves, like school children.

Cavani has been there longer but hey ho.

I can sort of understand this. It's perfectly reasonable that Cavani might have had it stipulated in his contract that he'd take penalties if available. Sounds like he had the top scorer bonus at the very least. If he has that in his contract and PSG want to change the terms, he'd be due compensation.

Neymar will want to get as many goals as possible too, so I can see why he'd want penalties included.

Obviously the sensible thing to do would be to alternate between them, and/or sort everything out before Neymar actually joined.

The sensible thing would surely be to let the manager select his penalty taker and have the players get on with it as the insanely paid sportsmen they are.

Could you imagine Cloughie or Ferguson allowing this to become an issue, bad management by Emery he looks so weak now.

According to Julian Laurens that's what they've agreed to do. Like you say the club might still decide to compensate him as his chances of scoring will be going down now, but it's not like money is an issue for PSG.

His goal bonus must be massive if he's getting that kind of pay out and the chance to collect it has gone.

While it's understandable it's just not how people like things to be done.

As a fan you want the best penalty taker taking the penalties. Not the guy who has it in his contract.

But this nonsense is becoming more and more common.
