Perhaps. But we did have the post-window ITK from @Hercules that Poch loved Janssen's attitude in training. I can't link to it because that part of the site is currently being archived.

VJ has just started two matches as Holland's main striker in a World Cup year, so he'll doubtless be gutted at missing the cut for the Champions League.
Pretty sure the claim was he is NOT cutting it in training currently.

  1. Lloris
  2. Vorm
  3. Gazzaniga
  4. Aurier
  5. Alderweireld
  6. Sanchez
  7. Vertonghen
  8. Foyth
  9. Davies
  10. Wanyama
  11. Dier
  12. Dembele
  13. Eriksen
  14. Sissoko
  15. Son
  16. Nkoudou
  17. Llorente
There's our 17 non-homegrown. After this, we are allowed 8 players all of whom have to be homegrown and at most 4 who are not from our club.

Therefore, Kane, Rose, Trippier make the list, giving is 20 in total, while Dele, Winks, KWP, Edwards and several others 21 and under who've been with us 2 years + qualify for the B list.

Quite simple really, no space for Janssen or Lamela without sacrificing others. Will be space for, say, Barkley.

This has probably been asked, but I don't care...

Why have Gazzaniga in there and not a u21 keeper?!

Like Dele, Edwards, etc an u21 keeper can go on the b list.
Exactly, wouldn't that free up a space for Janssen?

I know it's unlikely he'll play much, but I think there's way more chance Janssen would make an impact in the CL than Gazzaniga.

I might be getting the wrong end of the stick.

Does anyone reckon the ticket exchange will open for the Dortmund game? I bought the CL triple ticket before the dates were confirmed and I'm going to be away for the Dortmund game so was hoping to sell my ticket.

It was absolutely a decision to be made.

As I posted on the previous page, several clubs - eg Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG, manure - only went with two senior goalkeepers, relying on their best Academy / B List prospect as the third GK.

If I understand the rules correctly, we can name up to 25 players in the A list, and 8 of those spots must be Club Trained or Association Trained, grouped as Locally Trained (LT). For sake of ease we'll refer to the other list as Foreign Trained (FT)

LT – Alli
LT – Davies
LT – Kane
LT – Rose
LT – Trippier
LT
LT
LT

FT – Alderweireld
FT – Aurier
FT – Dier
FT – Dembele
FT – Eriksen
FT – Foyth
FT – Gazzaniga
FT – Llorente
FT – Lloris
FT – N'Koudou
FT – Sanchez
FT – Sissoko
FT – Son
FT – Vertonghen
FT – Vorm
FT – Wanyama
FT –

Means we actually have one remaining slot right now, so could in fact name Jannsen/Lamela now.

Davies doesn't count, he was in Denmark or something for 3 years

Just finished work expecting a nice easy catch up on SC but my head us pounding after reading that.

Bottom line for me is it's a sad story for Janssen. Perhaps a bit of punishment for not going to Brighton? Or him trying to call poch's bluff...

I don't believe Poch would punish him for that. I've read that Poch thinks quite highly of Janssen and said he has the perfect attitude and application. Just that the goals haven't come.

Even for Netherlands you could see him involved in creating goals for others but the poor guy missed so many chances as hard as he tried.

It would appear that for the UCL, the Welsh FA and English FA count as different associations. It makes some sense since Welsh teams have their own way of making it to the UCL and all of that, though when Swansea or Cardiff ever make it to Europe that might cause some confusion/changes.

Swansea having an affect on the game and the Welsh FA stuff seems to come more into affect with the Premier League and that side of things rather than Europe.
I imagine they would take the place of the Welsh league winners. That would cause riots in the streets of Total Network Solutions.

There are quite a few tickets still available... think it'd be unlikely. Some of the lower tier is still showing as green on the ticket site...

I note manure have only named 2 goalkeepers, De Gea and Romero, and will presumably resort to a B List player in an injury crisis..

Also, whilst many clubs have joined us in naming 3 goalkeepers to the A List, several have included a B List player as their 3rd goalkeeper. Eg Bayern, PSG, Real Madrid. So it's clearly a tough decision when whittling the squad down, and presumably in part comes down to how much faith the coach has in the best B List (ie club or association trained) keeper in the squad.

And it's pretty understandable that we aren't going to trust Alfie Whiteman, with zero senior appearances to his name, to potentially step in against Real Madrid.

Which is the judgement that Poch and our goalkeeping coach presumably made.

However McGee had a full season of League One football under his belt for Peterborough and was club trained.

True, but I don't think we could really insist to a young player who clearly didn't have a future with us that he had to stay because we needed him as third choice. It's that kind of potential stagnation that makes players think twice before joining Chelsea or City, and we'd far more seriously affected given our wage structure. Considering that we probably didn't expect to have both Janssen and Llorente at the club we really had to let him go.
