The first two qualifying rounds in the CL draw threw up a couple of interesting ties for a few SCers who pay attention to domestic ties as well.

Dundalk (Ireland) v Rosenborg (Norway)

Linfield or SP La Fiorita (San Marino) v Celtic

The first leg of the latter is the day before one of the huge sectarian marches the Norn' Irish are so fond of, so that could be a bit dicey. Dundalk v Rosenborg will be very interesting if Dundalk carry on from their great performances last season, Rosenborg look a bit shaky in the Norwegian league these days.

Full draw:

Champions League first qualifying round

Vikingur (Faroe Isles) v Trepca '89 (Kosovo)

Hibernians (Malta) v Tallinn (Estonia)

Alashkert (Armenia) v Santa Coloma (Andorra)

The New Saints v Europa (Gibraltar)

Linfield v SP La Fiorita (San Marino)

Champions League second qualifying round

Group 1

Apoel (Cyprus) v Dudelange (Luxembourg)

Zalgiris (Lithuania) v Ludogorets Razgrad (Bulgaria)

Qarabag (Azerbaijan) v Samtredia (Georgia)

Partizan (Serbia) v Budućnost Podgorica (Montenegro)

Hibernians (Malta) or FCI Tallinn (Estonia) v Salzburg (Austria)

Group 2

Sheriff (Moldova) v Kukes (Albania)

Astana (Kazakhstan) v Spartaks Jurmala (Latvia)

BATE Borisov (Belarus) v Alashkert (Armenia) or FC Santa Coloma (Andorra)

Zilina (Slovakia) v Copenhagen (Denamrk)

Hapoel Beer-Sheva (Israel) v Budapest Honvéd (Hungary)

Rijeka (Croatia) v The New Saints or Europa (Gibraltar)

Group 3

Malmo (Sweden) v Vardar (Macedonia)

Zrinjski (Bosnia and Herzegovina) v Maribor (Slovenia)

Dundalk (Ireland) v Rosenborg (Norway)

FH Hafnarfjördur (Iceland) v Víkingur (Faroe Islands) or Trepça '89 (Kosovo)

Any Dundalk locals on here? Looked from the highlights like they were unlucky not to beat Rosenborg, but 1-1 is still alright to take with them to Norway. Rosenborg aren't so good that Dundalk can't win this.

Hey Marty, Dundalk should have been 3-0 up before Rosenborg equailised (from a free kick given for a blatant dive).

We are quite capable of beating them away from home but it will be tight.

On a funny note, Niclas Bendtnet, yes the ex-Goon, was playing up front last night. At one point their central defender kicked the ball back to the Dundalk keeper after a substitution, and the prick tried to get on the end of it.

Cue a chorus of Niclas Bendtner, you're a wanker, you're a wanker.............. and the commentator asking has he ever been abused like that by so many Dundalk accents. Of course I jumped and and said proudly yes the Dundalk Branch regularly abused him worse than that!

Knew there was someone. ;)

I live in Bergen and as a result I'm conditioned to dislike Trondheim and particularly Rosenborg from an early age. Bendtner's been a bit of a disaster so far, 6 goals in 15 games for what is supposed to be by far the best team in the country just isn't good enough for what he's being paid and the experience he has at higher levels. He's not a popular figure among other club's fans to say the least.

To put Bendtner's stats in perspective, Wolves-flop Björn Bergmann Sigurdarson has 10 goals in 16 games for Molde and he wasn't good enough for the Championship!

1-1 in Norway. Important for both sides to win this because a loss here and they don't even drop to Europa, they're out altogether. Next round is the first where the loser drops to Europa.

Just saw that Nice v Ajax is a tie in the third qualifying round. Massive bummer for both sides, shows how much it sucks to come into the CL with no coefficient points from previous years like Nice have.

well this is my first match for the next 2017/18 season.

Rosenberg v Dundalk. 2-2 Full time. On aggregate.

Just going into extra time (and pens if necessary)

Celtic up next vs Linfield ... I'll not bother with that .. Gonna be a turkey shoot.

Extra time in Rosenborg v Dundalk. A shite game, neither team should have a hope against Celtic.

Celtic winning 3-0 v Linfield. Thought it would be 5-0

Making Celtic look good (until they meet some decent opponents- none of which will be Arsenal)
