Fucking hell I know he's not a world beater but the way some of you are talking you'd think we were after Heskey...

I want another forward in as well but this guy is not suitable. He won't work from the front like Harry does, he'll stand in the box waiting for crosses ffs. He'll expect the whole game plan to be geared towards him like it was at QPR.

Please have a think about this and stop spouting his goal ratio - there's more to it than that. Think about the right pieces for Poch's jigsaw not this chunky Burger king advert.

Some of you need to have a word with yourselves.

Larry if you had your way we'd have an 88 man squad.

There are many things you can criticise me for, this ain't it. I've probably been hard for half as many players as you have, I just like mine with an English flavour (fuck, I'm the Farage of football fandom). I want a striker, assuming you do as well? Like all fans, I have a list, Austin is on there, just a little higher than most other people's. It's cool, don't sweat it. If we signed Austin, I wouldn't want us signing another striker. Your comment is odd, sorry.

If Embolo settled well in England, got up to speed with the Prem in a few years he might be capable of scoring 19 goals in the Prem. Austin already has and would cost less than half the price.

Why you letting facts get in the way of slagging off an unfashionable English player when you could wank yourself silly about a Portuguese third division striker with finishing and off the ball 20 on Football Manager. Call yourself a "fan"? Time waster.

Just in case anyone gets offended, im only joking around.

Dude. You (at least I think it was you) went for me big time when we were linked with Vardy. You can't seriously say you wouldn't have taken him for £15m-£20m he'd have cost in the summer given what you know now? I'm probably biased towards English players. I recognise it, think the least you could do it accept your a bit of a hipster on these things and tend to the exotic.

Austin must be available for £10M, £15M at the very most so Townsend will cover his cost. He's a goalscorer, there's no doubt about that. OK so he doesn't have the all-round ability like Kane but not many players do. We have Kane who can do everything, N'Jie with the pace (and that's it so far), Son who is inconsistent so why do we need someone else with these traits? Austin offers something different, he can throw himself around and disrupt defenders, he's clinical and has proven he can do it at the top level. Also, he might not track back like Kane but he does work pretty hard up front. He has fitness issues but he's not going to start week in week out is he? He'll start cup games, some league games but mainly come off of the bench. We are hardly likely to spend £20M on Embolo, so as a January signing when we currently only have one fit striker, I think we could do a hell of a lot worse so I'm all for this. If he isn't successful I have every faith that we'll look for a more suited and more long term option in the summer. I know that Austin isn't perfect but we aren't in much of a position to be picky as we are an injury to Kane away from throwing a champions league place away again

The pro Austin comments in this thread make me think I'm living on another planet. A planet in which Poch never happened and we're still coached by Harry Redknapp: "He's a poacher isn't he? We could do much worse than Charlie Austin! Yeah he's a gamble with his injury record, but he offers something different! the fox in the box we've been missing. Course we'd revert to 442, get a couple of wingers in, none of this newfangled hipster nonsense. Can't expect him to run around much either, but that's not what we want is it? Might get Crouch back too. Perfect foil for a sweet little player like Austin. And he's English! Can't forget he's English!!!"

No-one is saying sign Crouch or go back to 442 so I'm not sure where that's coming from. It's the January window where we often falter and we're in a great position but have ONE striker. Njie is injured and Son isn't an out and out striker. Austin is far from the top of my list but he's a pretty good player and we could do a lot worse. We are in 3 competitions and we have a great chance to finish in the top 4 and with United and Chelsea going to want a big response next season it could be our best chance we get in the next 5 years. We're not going to sign Embolo or whoever it is you want and anyone who thinks we can continue with just Kane is deluded. He's already showing signs of fatigue. I absolutely love Poch's philosophy but signing one player who doesn't chase every single ball really isn't going to hurt, especially how he's not going to he first choice. There aren't many players that we're realistically going to sign this window that'd be better than Austin and we can't go on without signing a striker

Poch is playing with fire. If Kane is injured or burns out you can kiss top 4 toodledoo! I wish the club would stop fricking about and sign a bloody back up to Kane! Even bloody Charlie Austin FFS. I am not his biggest fan but do something THFC!

If Kane were to get hurt at least having Austin on the squad would allow us some comic relief trying to press as the main striker in this system. Would he be able to make it through a full half in the Poch system? Can you imagine the centerbacks trying to play out of the back with Austin lumbering slowly at them "pressing"? Have to hope they turn it over from laughter b/c he's not going to pressure anyone into a bad/quick pass!

Hasn't it already been established that:

A: He has a serious issue with his knee/knees/other part of his body;

B: He's a bit of a fuckwit off the pitch, and, most importantly;

C: When Levy offered the option of going for him at a cheap price, Pochettino explicitly said that he did not want him because he wouldn't fit into what he was trying to do and that he'd rather sign no one than a player that didn't fit?

When those three factors are taken into account, especially C, why are people still saying that we have to make a move for him and why are people even discussing him as an option?

It's not what the supporters want, it's what the manager wants.

Why would we sign Austin if Pochettino doesn't him. Discuss.
