Spurs fans set for White Hart Lane parking nightmare thanks to Ken Livingstone

What on earth is going on at Tottenham Hotspur? According to Spurs Official, from January 19 2008 - our home match with Sunderland - 100 streets around the stadium are to become part of a new Controlled Parking Zone.

There's a map of which ones are affected on the site but it's pretty much every single street the majority of fans use when driving to the Lane.

There's no details though about exactly how this affects us, except it says the zones will operate from 12pm to 4.30pm on a Saturday or Sunday match day and 5pm to 8.30pm on a week night. I can only assume, anyone living within it will get a resident's permit and have to display it on their windscreen when the car is outside their own home.

What make me sick though, is the lack of thought and respect for the fans from both the club and local council. This is the first I've heard about the scheme and there's not even full details available. Where do they expect us to park now?

I understand the frustrations of those living nearby. It must be hell on a match day with so many cars in the area. But it's not like the ground has only just been built. For 99 per cent of those living there, it would have been there when they moved in.

Many fans however, have no choice but to drive to WHL. Haringey Council relies on having the club situated here both financially and in terms of the kudos it brings the area. All they are now about to do is drive us out to a new stadium.

This scheme is silly. It means there will be traffic chaos as fans look for alternatives, some up to a 15 to 20 minute walk away. The trains will become more rammed than ever and many face having their cars ticketed or towed away because they won't know about the new rules.

I've emailed Haringey Council and will bring you their reaction as soon as I get it but this stinks! So much for the board looking after its loyal supporters. I hope the plans for a move are now swiftly put into action, we certainly need a new stadium anyway with better facilities, more seats, easier transport links and parking.

And if Haringey lose a fortune from Tottenham Hotspur leaving their environs then all the better. They might be happy with less congestion but let's see what the residents think when the Council Tax goes up to pay for the deficit in the budget caused by Spurs moving out.

It's no suprise the official site says this move comes from a "ruling by the Mayor of London". Ken Livingstone is not only an enemy of every driver in London, let's hope he's now an enemy of every Spurs fan. After all, they don't call him Red Ken for nothing!
