"Both Chelsea and City would be capable of improving Walker’s £70,000-a-week wages, whereas Tottenham are not prepared to continue improving the contracts of their players."

Huh?

Kiss my hairy hole Chelsea.

Any journo that thinks we'd sell to them should be fired in the spot.

True, but the sweet irony is that Danny boy will use the Chavs interest to bump up the price, which Citeh, the mugs, will pay!! :D(y)

IF and it's a huge IF this were true, we are looking at 70 million plus.
BUT, with Trippier here and young blood coming through, this is perhaps the one area where I wouldn't worry if this was to happen.

Well, I can see the reasoning behind that, actually. A flip side of having granted plenty of generous contract improvements to most players is that each player is closer to the ceiling within the club. Past contract improvements my in fact not point to future willingness to improve the contracts, but the opposite. The potential for further increases in earnings within the club is reduced once you hit a certain salary level.

If there's any truth in what's been reported, I'd expect Walker to come out and say his reason for wanting to move is that he wants to go back up North - in which case, Chelsea can fuck off.

Or he keeps quiet and earns us an extra £10m in the bidding war.

Walker is gone anyway, so it doesn't really matter to whom, as it would have been sanctioned by Levy. The most important thing is not where Walker ends up but the quality of the players that we buy with that transfer money.

The past two or three transfer windows have been hugely disappointing with three quarters of those purchased no longer with us, or unable to get a start.

We simply have to spend our limited transfer funds more wisely.
