Seems a lot of momentum already behind this story- he'd be a good addition, pace and power to rattle the more physical defences.

With a lot of his international team mates already at the club and the club having had a great season with CL football to look forward to next year there are a lot of reasons we would be an excellent next logical step for a player in his position

It also makes sense for us I think - he is young enough and less established enough to not demand first team football all the time while our fixture load in addition to a little formation flexibility over the season we can allow him plenty of game time and save Kane from over kill and burnout

I haven't seen enough of him personally - can he be played from either of the WF positions too? or is he really just a down the middle type of guy

We could rotate the forward line a lot without losing quality - either he or Kane could play in a number 10 position and one of Alli, Eriksen and Lamela could be rested/rotated ensuring they all get enough game time and rest respectively (and that's without factoring in Son, N'Jie and even Pritchard if he bursts on the scene this year.....plus Chadli could be retained I guess)

He'd also be a great option to regularly come off the bench and share the load with Kane. I think we could well be moving away from the whole 'starting XI' ethos towards a more fluid, squad based approach. At least, that's what I'm hoping if we can get some quality additions in.

It's the one thing that let us down this year

Wimmer showed how important quality cover is

We have a lack of similar quality options in the attacking area - hopefully next season Son, N'jie and Pritchard can improve those options somewhat but after Kane there is no one capable of being a game changer off the bench in the CF position and certainly no one to cover Kane should he get injured like Verts did when Wimmer was called upon

It sounds very much like Batshuayi could address that

Nice post. From what I've seen, he's very much a leading the line player, though I've seen him drop deeper to pick the ball up and initiate attacks. I can't see, and haven't heard of him playing as a WF, but I could be wrong. He's quite fearless and knows where the goal is. I'd be happy with him and a quick, tricky AM/WF as new attacking acquisitions.

Tor Kristian Karlsen (guardian contributor/former scout/DoF at Monaco among others) har suggested that his mentality is supposed to be somewhat shabby in regards to being able to cut it at a top club. He said the same about Benteke before his move to Liverpool.

We may have the same reservations.

Don't we wait to the last week of the window to buy players??
pretty much

although as we did with Modric we may look to move for a player prior to the Euros before their price potentially rockets if they perform well

Their position in the table may not suggest this- but Marseille are a pretty big club. He was their only striker during the first half of the season at the age of 22- with him having to carry the goal-scoring responsibilities on his shoulders. That suggests he has a pretty good mentality to me.

I'd still prefer Lacazette if we're grabbing a striker, but would not at all complain about Bats.

Need both!

One injury to Bat or Kane and we're back to square one again. If we release Chad, lacazzete can also play behind the front man. CL will take a lot out of our squad next season.

I can't imagine that happening, if it did then what would happen to N'Jie?

I agree I can't see it happening. Point I'm making is signing one striker is not enough. All it takes is one injury to Kane or whoever we buy and we're left with 1 striker playing PL and CL. Of course N'jie needs time but I don't see him being able to play up top. Maybe he can prove me wrong.
