We have some major issues right now
  • Dier at CB is pretty average and Wimmer was shocking on Tuesday, but Verts has to play at LB.
  • Monaco have worked out that barging into Dembele upsets him and no doubt Chelsea will wind him up as well.
  • Dembele and Dier make the best 2 man midfield and Wanyama is great in a midfield 3. But Dier is needed at the back and we need to play the system that best suits our squad which is 4231, so we'll have to stick with Wanyama and Dembele to nullify the Chelsea attack and provide cover for our awful CB pairing.
  • Eriksen has been AWOL in most of our recent games and we seriously miss Lamela's effort and creativity. For me GKN needs to be given more of a chance out wide to create, occupy the full backs, but he may need to start on the right as Son is much better coming in from the left.

The best team we can cobble together right now imo, due to injuries is:

Lloris
Walker Dier Wimmer Verts
Wanyama Dembele
GKN Dele Son
Kane
Bench: Vorm Trippier CCV Winks Eriksen Sissoko Janssen

We have to take the game to them. If we try and park the bus we'll get hammered. I expect to see Wimmer and Dier playing lots of long balls into the channels. And Walker and GKN playing high up the pitch as wing backs. Very difficult to make a case for them not scoring. The more I see Wimmer, the more he reminds me of a Dalek, and Dier hasn't looked great either.

I'd rather Wimmer was at LB than Vert as we need a leader in the middle. For those saying we didn't need a CB last summer, how silly does it look now not signing a specialist...?

I would love to say we're going to SB and turn them over but nothing I have seen from us since the city game convinces me of that. I've got a horrible feeling they will turn us over and pretty heavily too. We are a shambles at the back and can't keep relying on Hugo to bail us out. Going forward we are slow + ponderous, no quickness to our play or imagination. No doubt we will see loads of sideways passing and stats of 60% odd possession without creating anything. Welcome to AVB's 2013/14 Tottenham, sorry I meant MP 2016/17 Tottenham.....

Funny you should post this. I'm trying to decide whether to get another bottle of Jim Beam for Saturday or stick with what's left of the Absolut vodka. Choices, choices. :)

I've already hit the Jim Beam. I reckon a few more glugs and Sissoko might start to look like an astute piece of business. And by glugs I mean bottles.

We need Jan in the middle, it's the only chance we've got of getting something from the game

So you'd want 6 CB's in the squad just in case we need to cover suspension and injuries?

literally lol

Would prefer 3 at the back like at Arsenal. Wimmer and Dier cannot be left alone without an adult present. Wimmer at left back seems a recipe for disaster.

When we play a back four, the centre backs needs to be comfortable defending the space behind the fullbacks, and Wimmer has been very uncomfortable doing that this season. Tasking him with lots of 1-v-1-defending in wide areas as a full back when he's already somewhat low on confidence would be recipe for disaster i.m.o.

Three at the back with Walker and Sissoko (Yeah, really) as wing backs would make me most comfortable actually.

Actually laughed out loud at that 2nd sentence.
