Anyone know what was controversial about Siggys goal, as according to the Daily Express it was.

Hardly in the territory of their two ghost goals in recent years. Plus Ade was wrongly flagged off a few mins later when he was clean through.

To be honest the fact that we scored a dodgy goal made it all the sweeter given the shite they've got away with in the past the chavvy tw@'s

I love AVB but will call him out when he gets it wrong and he got it wrong tonight. He doesn't understand how to get the best out of his players at times. Hudd and Parker need to play in the hole in front of the defence. Play them both and they get in each others way or one is forced to play forward in a role they can't do and pretty much end up in no-man's land, which was Parker ALL night. He was forced to make runs in the channels, run with the ball and try to get our attacks going. He was completely shit at it and just got in the way, he wasn't even tackling or clearing up. It's not his fault because that's not where he should be, it's AVB's fault. Holtby looked good but he's a passing player. He needs movement in front of him and runs coming from the midfielders around him. He only had the isolated Ade in front, a man marked Bale and the static Hudd and Parker behind him. Lennon wasn't looking confident and didn't get involved. That meant that his quick one touch passed were pointless because there was no movement going forward around him. Modric was the same, he looked terrible playing in the hole, you put some decent movement in front of him however and he suddenly turned in to Xavi.

AVB should have played a 4-3-3 with one out of Hudd and Parker. In front of him you'd have Holtby and Siggurdson. That way Parker or Hudd can do what they do best sweeping up just in front of the back four. There's far more movement to pass to out from the back and it will be far less predictable. The full backs can press up because there's a genuine DM who can drop in to the back line and cover. Holtby will have Sig making runs in front of him that allows him to use his passing skills and opening up space for the likes of Bale, Lennon and Ade. It doesn't weaken us defensively because both Sig and Holtby are strong in the tackle and will press better up the pitch than an out of position Parker or Hudd. I genuinely think that the forward position in a midfield 3 is Sig's best position so it's perfect.

Well done to AVB for making the changes and motivating the side for fantastic comeback but we shouldn't have been starting off on the wrong foot. What I don't get it is that AVB favoured the 4-3-3 at his previous clubs yet he refuses to play it here, despite it being the formation most suited to our plays. All in all frustrating

Agree with all of this and also said in the Sigurdsson thread that he should be playing in a midfield 3.

Also don't understand why avb not turned to a 433 more often. I know he said the players were used to the system we use now but that was when we had VdV and Modric.

I don't know why we're using Holtby as a no10, looks lost there. Parker driving forward to nowhere, pointless. Just get him to hold and let Sig and Holtby attack from deeper. Once Dembele is back swap him for either one of them depending on the game. Would also suit someone like Carroll more.

Let Bale have his roaming position on the right and let Ade/Defoe/Dempsey/Lennon fight it out for the other 2 spots in the front 3

I thought Dawson was shocking. Kept committing himself and getting done, then was at fault for both goals.

He gives this impression he's a great defender by blocking shots with his face etc, but his positioning is crap. He's a John Terry.

Lennon good most of the season how much goals has he scored and how much has he set up? Exactly he has nothing apart from pace i was his biggest fan but there is far better players out there than him.

Think before posting how about stop kissing Lennons arse for once he isnt anywhere near as good as you make out im not debating this but Lennon isnt as good as you are making out.
You're being a bit unfair. Lennon's been injured and for a pace person hamstrings are hard to recover from before you can crank up the pace. He is a much more improved footballer from 3 years ago - he reads the game better and now has a useful cross that causes hesitation in the keeper. Give him an offseason rest and he'll be right as rain

This is it. A trait of the knuckle dragging english game - throwing yourself into last minute challenges and "putting your body on the line" is revered. Truth is good defenders don't need to dive into challenges as they already snuff out the danger before it gets to that point. Ledley King was master of this, hardly ever made last ditch challengers or even went to ground.

It's really annoying me why this is such a big deal. I've heard it from numerous chelski fans and reporters. It's like an elbow or something! These decisions happen all the time and would be IMPOSSIBLE for the linesman to truthfully flag when it's that close. And as you said he did flag when ade was through before so it's even. It's a moot point.

A little late but will post anyway. The rule says a player is offside if a part of his body that can score is closer to the goal than the defender. As Ade was facing back and it was his elbow and arms closer to the goal the even is on portion o the rule applies. Legitimate goal.
