Please can we stop playing Dawson? I like him n all and yeah he gives it his all. But I'm afraid his all isn't enough. He's so far from prem standards it's quite extraordinary.

Walker (I want him gone too, but we have no other options) | Chiriches | Vince Kaboul | Verts

That is all.

Chirches has looked nervous in EL games. There is no way he is ready to be thrown into a prem match yet.

Two things, while Dawson may not be top 4 quality, he is by no means 'so far from prem standards'. Secondly, why would you want Walker gone (dropped for a while I could understand)? Reactionary statement. I think so.

Chiriches is good player.
This idea of keeping them wrapped in cotton wool is nonsense. Get them playing and stop relying on our experienced players because if the fallacious notion that players aren't ready or adjusted to the league.

Paulinho starts every game, nobody bats an eyelid, he came and he settled.

Reactionary about Walker? How many times have we collectively (on here) berated him for crucial mistakes, some of which have cost us games? Plenty is the answer.

And Dawson being far from prem standard might be and exaggeration, but he is so so bad. I can't honestly name an element of his game that I rate, apart from his spirit.

Dawson can be bloody brilliant in games, roasted in others. A unfortunately until Kaboul is fit or chiriches is ready, we have to play him. He'll play most games this season.

One of AVB's mistakes against West Ham, was not playing Chicheres instead of Walker. Walker looked well off the pace and Chicheres would've added a fresh dynamic to our attack IMO.

I'm not saying he should permanently there, just that game because of Walker's injury. Good opportunity to try him. No way should Chicheres be starting now but yes Dawson had a shocker against West Ham.

Our back 4 are so poor. Our strong midfield were making them appear to be doing well. As soon as AVB fudged up our midfield (a la Wet Spam), we leak 3, all from defensive mishaps.

Fullbacks are shoddy and Dawson is piss-poor.

End of.

If fit our best CB partnership is Kaboul and Vertonghen. I think just about everyone agrees on this.

In Kaboul's absence it depends who we are playing which is the best replacement. Dawson is slow and Chiriches is weak in the air. Horses for courses.

Let's not forget that when Capoue returns we have a strong option who isn't weak in either department.

Agreed, but because we have no LB, Verts should play LB, thus the need for another CB - just not Dawson!!

Honestly speaking, when was the last 'brilliant' game from him?

I still like Dawson as he at least plays like he gives a shit and in my opinion you need at least one of your defenders to be aerially dominant.

I'm not sure a Verts/Chriches partnership works for me in the PL. Both of them like to bring the ball out of defense and I can see us being exposed quite badly.

If you look at a lot of the best CB pairings - Vidic/Rio, Judas/King etc, one is physically domniant and the other a great reader of the game and comfrotable bringing the ball out of defense. Its why Kaboul and Verts is such a good pairing on paper and a big shame we haven't seen it. Of course the added bonus is that Kaboul is capable of being a dominant, no nonsense defender but also very comfortable with the ball at his feet.

I do admit, watching Dawson play our high line sometimes I feel like watching with my fingers over me eyes.

I've been saying for years that Dawson, although committed etc etc is limited at best.

Glad to see others noticing that a clean sheet isn't always a direct result of the defenders performance too.

Walker was injured/ill for the West Ham match but they decided to play him anyway. That's why he looked well off the pace on the weekend.

Dawson is awful, against Chelsea and West Ham he looked Championship standard, I lost count of the amount of times he dived in and got nowhere near the ball. Torres, a player supposedly lacking in confidence, made him look a fool.

Verts was even worse though.

People need to look at the bigger picture, everybody involved - not just the easy targets like Dawson, Naughton and Defoe.

Nowhere near ready. Reminds me of Kabous when he first joined. Best case scenario is he'll get more confidence through EL and FA/Carling Cup games and feature a bit more in the league as the season goes on. Otherwise he may need a good loan out to get used to English football regularly.
