Well fair play to him for holding his hands up, accepting responsibility and working hard to improve.

I remember a certain Younus Kaboul had an absolute mare of a first season for us, right before being sold to Pompey. Then came back a different player.

I think most of us agree that there's a player in there. Maybe the answer is to loan him out somewhere where the expectation and pressure are off him, let him get his shit together, then come back to us as a more assured player.

The best way to make us forget us to put in good performances. The jury is out. Can see him being moved on at the end of the season if he doesn't come back strongly.

Well all i can say.. he had one hell of a bad game ! Not sure if Pocjh. will persevere with him . He has never really settled, so would expect him to be loaned out, or sold in Jan. unless he can now get over this nightmare and improves 100%. in the U21 games / Euro League

Improved performances will mean we can forgive but we are unlikely to forget that performance.

At least he has the right attitude and I hope he can get past this.

I cringe when I see him starting a game this year, but let's not forget he was fairly decent last year (with the odd error!). Man U away springs to mind.

Hope he is. Want him to come good. A couple of great showings and it will be forgotten. If hasn't knocked us out of a competition... Don't knock us out of a competition, Vlad

He had a shit game and he had about three shit games before this season.

Guys like him are not even average and in the way of our youth development. Hope we dont see him again on the pitch.

Some really shit attitudes on here.

He fucked up. He isn't the first to do so and sure won't be the last. But he is our player so at least offer some fucking support. Giving him continual abuse is hardly gonna help him regain confidence and form.

I really hope he turns it around and proves all the doubters wrong.

So does WBA away. He's nothing but average on a good day, and as we have seen several times a liability waiting to happen.

I dunno, we're talking about a guy who is the Romanian skipper here, some of the stuff he's done would beggar belief in a Sunday league game.
There is obviously a player in there but I don't know if we'll ever see it....

Well all i can say.. he had one hell of a bad game...

I don't think he's played really well once this season, at least not in the games that I have seen (I missed only the Liverpool match). He's obviously talented, but his form has completely gone to hell since last spring and there's no visible evidence that it has anything to do with physical fitness - the mistakes he is making are more often errors of judgment or concentration.

Chiriches is not an especially physically-formidable defender, so he relies on anticipation, technical skills and a reasonable amount of pace (for a defender) to do his job. That means that he has to be mentally on top of things and, when he is, he brings useful things to the team, because he can run the ball confidently out of defence, pass intelligently and - importantly - hang onto the ball looking for something to do other than whacking it upfield.

Even when he is on form, he tends to get scorned by the same fans who never 'got it' with Assou-Ekotto, for the same reason. Both of them rely on their ability to retain the ball in tight spaces, even in or near the penalty box, and this produces a lot of moments when you just want to shriek 'get rid of it!!!' During his 2-3 best seasons, BAE would almost never fuck up in those situations, but that style created an impression of uncertainty amongst some fans, who would remember those alarming, but successful moments as if they had led to errors.

Chiriches has a similar ability, but, like BAE, when he isn't playing well he makes single-handed [ahem] errors that cost goals and he is not playing well now, so he should sit down until he gets his head together. We have enough defenders that Pochettino doesn't have to keep playing him, hoping he plays his way back into form.

Opponents know what type of player he is now and that can cause problems. It's the old '2nd season' syndrome. He needs to cut out the risky stuff and concentrate on being a solid defender. I think he's very much a 'horses for courses' type of player who definitely shouldn't play certain games. Demba Ba spotted the weakness and exploited it in a way many other strikers couldn't, but I think Poch takes some of the blame for leaving him on when he was obviously struggling.
