I know we have some American fans on the forum, so I wanted to know why you chose to follow Spurs. Also which sports and teams fellow members follow. Without having a geographical connection how do you choose a team. I'm currently watching the NBA finals and am plumping for the Warriors and it made me wonder what makes people root for one team over another. I'm cheering the warriors cos they're west coast got good style don't rely on a big man, got a good star in Steph Curry and they're slight under dogs.
Other sports

MLB , Cincinnati reds.. because we've got friends in ohio

NHL , Toronto Maple Leafs .. was in Canada on a months holiday and whilst in Toronto was walking past the air canada centre just before a game, touts were hawking tickets at 500$ a pop, gave it a miss watched it on telly at the hotel and it went triple overtime. From then on they were my team and the next 3 weeks travelling round canada we always watched the games, cheering on the Maple Leafs in a bar in Vancouver was interesting. I fucking love hockey but the coverage in the uk is shit.

NFL , Green Bay Packers, simply for the name.

MLS , strangely no interest in it at all.

anyway I dont know if anyone will find this interesting but what the fuck !!

I'm canadian and i had no interest in footy until 2010 since it is/was seen as a girl's sport were i come from. but after the world cup that year i got a little bit interested. at that point i only had a vague awareness of chelsea, arsenal, liverpool and man united from the bpl and i knew that i didnt want to be a stereotypical north american fan by picking one of them. then one random Saturday i turned on the tv and the north london derby was on and spurs were losing 2-0 at half time. then we made a fantastic comeback starting with bale scoring on a counter, then equalized with a vdv pen capped off with a stunning kaboul header. i was hooked and have been a fan ever since.

i live a half of an hour from Detroit so even thought i'm canadian i follow detroit sports:
my favourite hockey and baseball teams are the detroit tigers and red wings with miguel cabrera and pavel datsyuk my favourites from those respective clubs.
my favourite nfl team r the denver broncos harking back to when jake "the snake" plumber was there qb.
dont really have a favourite nba team but i do like to hear toronto do well.
my favourite college are michigan state for both basketball and americaan football, as well im a fan of georgetown basketball.

NFL - Pittsburgh Steelers. First ever NFL match I saw was Steelers vs. Cowboys and I couldn't bring myself to support the Cowboys. Also Kordell Stewart and Jerome Bettis were great to watch.

NHL - Pittsburgh Penguins. Initially started to watch them simply because they were a Pittsburgh team.

NBA - Not a huge fan but I do look out for the results of the New Orleans Pelicans. Went to a couple of their games when they were the Hornets.

MLB - zzzzz. I can watch Test cricket easy but baseball sends me to sleep. If I had to pick a team I would say Chicago White Sox largely because an ex made me watch them.

MLS - Would probably have to say Seattle Sounders solely because I have vague memories of watching a Sounders game at a sports bar and drunkenly telling a girl all about Kasey Keller's career at Spurs in an attempt to impress her

NBA - Hornets. Loved that midget they used to have. Got a soft spot for Utah cause of Stockton. He looked liked a bible salesman, who didn't have an athletic bone in his body but the boy could ball.
NFL - RED SKINS. love the badge

that's really an understatement gretzsky is basically the pele of hockey
Way more than what Pele was to footy....Wayne LITERALLY changed the way the game was played...on top of that no one in NHL history has had 200 points in a season, Wayne did it 4 times, look at the records for point totals in a season you will see Wayne in 9 of 11 spots with Mario in the other 2......dude is stupid silky on ice, I recommend people who haven't seen him to taka a gander.

The major obstacle for me is the stupid names of the teams, funny isn't it when I support Tottenham Hotspur

Started supporting the Philadelphia Eagles after purchasing Madden, not completely knowing the rules and running the ball a lot with Shady McCoy. Since then have been to a game in Philly and will be going to MetLife in Jan to see them away at the Giants. Also fond of the Rams, mainly because I love the '99 Superbowl run story.
