Said to a LFC fan when they signed him it wasn't a great move so I can't change my opinion now I've seemingly been proven right.

Surely we of all fans can appreciate the need for having players suited to the system and the benefit of those players having a similar work ethic. It's not just buy the best players you can afford and expect them to fit in perfectly.

Benteke can be a force, and could play for most sides, but:-

1) He is known to be lazy in training (Roy Keane said it at Villa). Our training is about as hard as it gets in the PL apparently too. Could be another Adebayor/Kaboul/Lennon situation.
2) He clearly doesn't suit the Liverpool pressing game, similar to what we employ.
3) He is injured OFTEN.
4) Liverpool are no doubt overpaying him, and possibly are keen to shift him for a loss only 6 months on. Doesn't bode well.

Sure Benteke and Kane sounds a formidable front line but there is something not quite right about him. Yes we may have been offered him but I don't think we'll be interested.

I'm happy with the links to Dembele and Afobe personally.

It's young, hungry players that we need and for an alternative to Kane they need to offer a different dynamic and that's pace. We should be all over Dembele. Afobe is a good option also but his price tag scares me. Paying £14/15m for a championship player is very steep. We need to be targeting the clubs who have money issues like Birmingham (Gray).

Looking like they really want to sell before they make any big moves. Both Sturridge and Benteke available but the list of clubs willing and able to take either, I would imagine to be very small. Considering how much Pool would want and also their current wage deals and injury records neither are going to offer anything like vfm.
Fuck, regardless of the injuries I would definitely take Sturridge if that was at all possible. If our fitness staff, physio's, and sports science staff can get Dembele and Walker playing regularly and well after the injuries those two had, then I'm sure there's a chance they could do the same for Sturridge.

100 percent agree regarding Sturridge

The interesting thing about the Benteke ITK is the phrase 'has been offered to us'. That sounds like Liverpool pushing him our way, and the only way I can see that happening is with a huge caveat - namely, Kane going the other way in some way, which is of course, out of the question.

He doesn't suit a passing team like us

I get that from one side of the argument. The other side is that he is a beast and can be thrown on to terrorise and try nick a winner. Great in the box - Kane can drop behind him.

He is kind of a plan B in himself. Sometimes outpassing a team doesn't put the ball in the net as we've found out many a time!

I was obviously way off the mark with my previous post, judging by the response. I'd forgotten that it is the season of good will and have to admit that in all probability, Liverpool wouldn't want anything much in return for their recently acquired 30m striker (especially not one of our own), and have probably offered Benteke to us in order to help us make a proper push for a top 4 spot. My apologies.

Has the poster with a link to the Walsall ITK (can't remember who that was) heard anything new about this kid?

Edit: Oops, meant for the Shilow Tracy thread. Sorry :( I've always wondered how people mistakenly post in the wrong thread...Answer: I still don't know. :banghead:

Edit...again: I will stop with this line of query before I dig myself any deeper. Laughable :bag:
