the links with him have really been picking up as of recent, and apparently he's refusing to discuss new contract terms with Ajax.

would absolutely love to see him play at spurs...

Eriksen has said that he doesn't consider himself ready for a big move and wants to perfect his game before stepping up to a big league, just like Vertonghen did. He said something along the line of "perfecting" his game.

That's, to me, a pretty sound way of looking at it, but at the same time the buying club will have to pay more due to his quality if he develops as he could, compared to the prize for his potential.

I have to put this transfer probability in the realms of Falco. Eriksen would walk into any team in the EPL, will take more than Vertoghen to get him to sign for us.

Not at all convinced. He's having a 'sophomore slump season' that makes Walker look on top of his game.

Ajax also usually only sell one top player per 12 months, and Verts only left last window.

he will thrive with quality players around him, we should go for him while we can afford him and his demands - before one of Europe's money teams turn his head.

What has he got that Sigurdsson doesn't? Seriously, I'd consider them both to be of the same calibre/potential, except Siggy is maybe a bit more suited to the pace and power of the EPL.

better vision, can hold the ball better, plays deeper, can dictate pace of the game

i see Eriksen as a young version of Modric

Yeah, if true he's deffo not going in the next window. And by the end of the season his value might have shot up, so unfortunately I can't see this one happening.

Seems like he's hanging on for Summer when his options will be at their maximum. Only way I can see him leaving in Jan is if, with only about 18 months left on his contract (I think,) Ajax push him towards the exit door themselves. Will more likely resemble the Vertonghen situation with him having a year left at time of departure.

Eriksen has been tipped for huge things for more than just a few weeks.

When Wilshire made his England debut he spent all night chasing Eriksens shadow and not getting close. The rags over here were purring over him. He has gone off the boil over the past 6 months or so though.

It's in everyone's best interest if we wait until Summer on this one.

From Eriksen's perspective: He got it right. He needs to be more consistent. He even mentioned Verts as an example. First half of the season last year Verts was okay, but in the second half he turned it on and rounded out his game more. Eriksen is looking to do the same, and if he does that, a move will be inevitable.

From Spurs perspective: If we are going to spend that much money on him as is being rumored, then we want a pretty solid product. Eriksen has shown flashes of greatness but on the whole season has not been great. Consistency is something that separates the good players from the great. I'm sure if we intend on dishing out 20m, we want that player to be of the 'great' variety. Also, I'm sure a Summer of training will do him good to get acclimated into the squad. I'm not sure how well he would transition immediately, and for me, that's what the January window is primarily about.

The problem with this is that if we wait for Eriksen to improve and become more consistent then his price ends up rocketing, bigger clubs go in for him and then we've got no chance (kind of like what happened with Leandro). Although we all want it, we can rarely go out and buy the finished product. We need to get players in when they're raw (like Modric) and develop them.

You're totally right. I've even alluded to this in the past with guys like Isco in other threads. I must not have been thinking quite straight. However, 20m is a lot for any club, and we do have a lot of attractiveness that we can bring to the table with Eriksen (Vertonghen for example) that might hold up against other clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool. I haven't heard much about City or United in on him, and I think they have a lot more pressing needs to address than Eriksen. But, then again, when does not having a need at a position ever keep those assholes from buying a player?
