Eriksen is the only player in the squad who has vision, awareness and real passing ability. For that reason he should always start. He has always had problems with consistency though but as has been said, he's only 21.

One thing he does need though is to toughen up a bit. He gets brushed off the ball far too easily. Modric is a great example of a slight player who could still mix it with stronger players. I think this is a mindset though, as he was brought up in a more physical croatian league rather than the dutch league, which is a bit airy fairy.

Just needs to learn to use his body a bit more wisely. Modric was good at it, as is Silva. Getting his body between defenders and the ball. Some beefing up will obviously be useful as well.

Some people don't seem to realize how hard we rocked this summer by getting Eriksen and Lamela. Two 21 year old players who are already capable playing at near-elite levels. If we can manage to hold on to them for 5 or 6 years (at least), we should always be competitive in the league. We are sort of Chelsea the last few years, when they grabbed (stole *cough) Oscar and Hazard.

Sherwood confirms Cristian Erikson won't play for Denmark on Wednesday against England due to back injury. Not sure if he'll play v Chelsea
This is just getting silly now, I don't understand what is going on with all the back injuries. Is this due to some dodgy weights program that Vlad, Erik and Eriksen have all been placed on in the hope they will bulk up. What ever the cause, if he is out for two months now I'm liable to go postal in the Spurs physio department. Such a shame to, was hoping to see him against England.

The question is what formation we play against Chelsea. Soldado looks to be breaking into form now, and so is Adebayor.
Very true, if we leave Soldado out then that could be a step backwards, but going 442 against Hazard and Co. would probably be suicide.

Same team against Newcastle albeit Sandro for Capoue, Rose for Fryers and Eriksen for Bentaleb.

I think we could go 442 - with Sandro and dembele in the middle we won't get outfought I don't think, even if they have 3 in there. Lennon on the right who tracks back really well to help out vs hazard. Hope Ade and soldado can nick us a goal or 2.

Tbh think that could and would work as well as any setup. We're going to have to play very well and ride our luck to get anything regardless of how we setup.

In all fairness Dembele goes invisible whenever you need him to step up. A 4-4-2 versus any Mourinho team will get slaughtered.

The thing to do against the Chavs is to go 433 with Ade playing as one of the wide forwards with Robby through the middle. Sandro, Paulinho and Dembele as the midfield 3. You can't go 442 against this Chelsea it's suicidal.

I've just said this on the front page article about Soldado but I'll copy and paste it here too.

Considering the amount of central midfielders we have and the lack of end product we're getting from the like of Lennon/Townsend etc then maybe we need to try a system without wingers. Any 3 from Sandro/Capoue/Dembele/Paulinho/Bentaleb in the middle, Eriksen as the playmaker behind Ade and Soldado. Not a system we're used to seeing but it's a way to get 2 upfront without conceding the middle of the pitch. Also get's Eriksen where he could be most effective.

I would love if we did this. Soldado is obviously class but lacking confidence. This weekends goal I believe will push him and he will put away much more now. Benching him could undo everything positive done against Cardiff.

This coupled with the fact that I don't think mourinho will believe we will do this will put the surprise factor in our set up.

The only other change I wouldn't mind is bentaleb for paulinho which I think will happen. It still leaves us with a real solid midfield 3 but sandro in there is a must

Cant see Ade tracking back whatsoever.

I agree he won't look natural doing it, but Ade seems to be in high spirits currently and he always puts a shift in against the big boys. Dropping Soldado now I think would be pretty fatal to his Spurs career and Adebayor is probably our best player, currently. He tends to drift out to the wings a lot anyway, and if Sandro can start (he must to my mind if possible) then I feel comfortable enough in Fryers getting ample protection.
