I have been saying it all season, intelligence needs intelligence.
Lamela, Eriksen, Holtby, Bentilab, Soldado, Verts Chiri.
Especially the front lot, how they havent taken to the pitch together is beyond me.

Absolutely. It's the 4 man midfield that's making it so hard (impossible?) to do precisely that. There's not really any real reason why we couldn't see

Lloris
Walker, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Rose
Holtby, Sandro, Bentaleb
Lamela, Soldado, Eriksen

Or

Lloris
Walker, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Rose
Holtby, Sandro, Paulinho
Lamela, Soldado, Eriksen

Or put Dembele alongside Sandro & Holtby, or put him in the front 3. Or give Sandro a rest and play Capoue, etc etc etc. We have, in my opinion, an outstanding squad, for that formation. It allows for better rotation possibilities, and it's a system that many of our expensively signed players are familiar with. That's why I'm so astounded by Sherwood's intimation that he wants to 'weed out' some of our summer purchases, and replace them with alternative options. Why not just change to a formation & system that suits the players we have, rather than throw away the major investment that was made last summer?

The most frustrating thing about this season is that there's absolutely no reason why we couldn't have been doing that all season

No doubt at all that this guy will be a world class player. I hope with us. We can lose anyone in this team I won't give too much if a shit, but not him

I remember some spurs fans (tongues firmly in cheek) saying that Eriksen is a better signing than Mezut Ozil.

He was.
I don't know if he was

He is playing better at the moment and he would most likely be even better if he were to play in the arsenal team but the Ozil signing made them think they are a big team, raise their performance and ultimately got them a CL place and perhaps a trophy.

Though is that worth £30million, maybe in the long term it is, just depends on whether arsenal can build on it.

Amount of injuries we've had has stopped any chance of that happening.

Between Bentaleb, Holtby, Eriksen, Lamela, Chadli, Soldado and Adebayor there's generally been at least four that have been fit, often more. AVB certainly had a period where all of them were fit

But yeah agree there's not much chance of seeing a lot of them together this season

One of these things is not like the others

Was gonna put this in the squad thread yday but I guess it is better here.

Eriksen is good enough to build the team around imo number 10, in the hole, free role whatever you want to call it he should be the main man next year. It might mean buying a backup or hoping Lamela is as good as we hoped for when he is injured or on a poor run. Class act!

he wouldnt of scored either of them goals if he was playing in the hole

ive said this time and time again but he is so much better with a free role starting from the left, confuses defenders and makes his job so much easier as he can see spaces to drift in to where the full back is unlikely to follow him

the times he starts in the hole he gets easily phased out of the game because normally he is quite static and easy to pick up and startle with a few heavy challenges

He's clearly intelligent enough to work out for himself where he needs to be. He has great footballing intelligence - maybe the best in our team.

wish people would stop saying we should build our team around him as a number #10, he will grow in to that role when he is ready and it will be natural, no need to put unnecessary pressure on him to be our heartbeat as a 22 year old

People are saying we should build the team around him because he's looking like one of the only world-class players we have at the club. Still, not as bad as Man Utd who have been built around Januzaj for most of the season.

I agree. I would also like to see Lamela given the same role on the right when he returns from injury.
