Do you all realize how rare those players are? Rabiot isn't defensive enough to play as a lone deep midfielder. Pirlo's and Xabi Alonso's don't grow on trees. Hell even Xabi Alonso played alongside Mascherano and Khedira. Dier is a perfectly capable defensive midfielder. We don't need three players of Eriksens passing ability in midfield, thats unreasonable.
I think you’re creating binaries here. Nobody expects three Eriksen’s in CM- to suggest people expect that is just as unreasonable as the expectation itself. Poch himself has publicly stated that Dier is a much better CB than a CM. We don’t have to sign Pirlo mark II to probably get a more natural number 6 than Dier.

Not talking about the USA I'm talking about Dortmund. When he was coming through he was primarily more of a central player but he's transitioned to playing more often wide on the right (and occasionally left) for various reasons, whether it be down to the formation they use, him not being ready to play more centrally at this higher level yet, or whatever, but to me he's still fundamentally an attacking midfielder who can play either centrally or wider on either side, anywhere in the 3 of a 4-2-3-1. The way you make him out is like he's just a winger like Aaron Lennon or something sells him short IMO. He's got a lot more to his game than that. He's a long way from the finished article but he's got potential to be excellent in any one of those positions, not just a run down the line and cross it type winger.
Agree with this. He's got more of a playmaker mentality than Moura...always dribbling with his head up looking for the incisive pass...in that way he's a bit like Eriksen. But, he has dribbling skills and pace that Eriksen just doesn't have. But, he doesn't have the striking ability of Eriksen or son but he isn't nearly as gun shy about taking a pop as Moura seems to be. I think he'd be a great understudy to Eriksen personally...and Eriksen plays far too many matches as it is. As for quickness, I bet he's a bit quicker than Moura flat out running but very few players anywhere are as tricky quick with the ball as Moura is. Pulisic is not that far behind though. We should remember too that he is doing this all at 19 years of age. He's only going to get better and this may be the last time we can afford him.

As for down side...well his youth will mean he's going to be a bit inconsistent. He also is not very big and will have to adjust to the physical nature of the PL.

I'm just interested in hearing who would be a better fit that is likely achievable? Sure I'd love to have Busquets for that role but imo those types of players are amongst the rarest in the world.

I think of him as much better than Aaron Lennon but I just don't see him as really that much different than Lucas. I think they both serve the same role on the pitch and do the same things. Lucas came up as a 10 and then moved out to the edges of the pitch just as Pulisic has done at Dortmund, their speed allows them to attack players from that part of the pitch with their skills. I don't think either can dictate the tempo of a game like an Eriksen can. Maybe Pulisic can one day but he hasn't proved that in the Bundesliga yet.

Maybe we are best to just agree to disagree here. I'm from the USA but I just don't think it would be a smart move for the club.

Thiago is rumored to be available at Bayern, keep waiting for that link to pop up.

I think you, and other posters, are far more knowledgeable than me on the wider footballing market so would welcome suggestions too.

Yeah I guess agree to disagree. I personally think he's got a lot more vision etc. to his game than Lucas has, but obviously I'm not saying he's already just as accomplished as Eriksen, of course he isn't, but down the line he could be and when he's fully developed I feel like we could have someone like Eriksen but with the added bonus of being able to run with the ball.

As I said before, I agree that we have more urgent priorities positionally, but I'm so convinced Pulisic is going to be a really special player one day that I feel like we'd regret it if we pass on him while we've got the opportunity.

This may be the only time to buy low on Pulisic, as there is this perception that he regressed this season. However, this was a weird year for Dortmund, between the team bus being bombed and the 4 coaches in one calendar year. Plus, he may be playing out of position as a winger, and from what I've read his lower assist numbers may be more attributable to poorer finishing by his teammates than Pulisic himself. And, he won't be going to the WC to showcase his talents.

FWIW, I think Dele might be a better comp than Eriksen for what Pulisic's best role would be going forward, i.e. playing a bit more up field, able to play wide or centrally, making a clever pass to spring Kane, et al. or creating space for his own shot. And Poch's success in developing Dele from a young age may also be attractive to Team Pulisic.

When I landed at Heathrow earlier today there was a Borussia Dortmund jet on the tarmac. Are they in town, or just some of their reps.

You saw a BVB painted plane? I mean, i’d have a hard time believing they have their own private plane painted in BVB colors. You’d think their exec’s would fly around in something a bit more low key. Could just be an airline has a BVB livery on one of their planes that happened to make the London route today. Unless you know the tail number on their private jet, in which case, you’d think that information would kept private...

Edit: A google search shows that Eurowings has a BVB livery on one of their planes.

They've been over in America doing friendlies/promotional stuff last week so could be that they're just on their way back from that and had a layover in Heathrow..?
