Damn the down side to bidding early
It doesn't matter whether we bid early or late if clubs like city walk into the room it's usually game over, of course we don't know what is actually happening but if true then I'm sure we will move onto target B soon enough some you win some you lose.

If we had our bid accepted surely it means we can but the player for that money, being outbid means if he accepts city then they pay more than us

Agreed I think it means we can discuss terms and if we fail to do that he can talk

to City?

1) There is a limit to how many players City would want to buy, so at some point that outbidding madness will have to stop.
2) If a bid from us really already is accepted that means it's down to the player to choose which club has the offer to that suits him. If he is the right fit for Spurs he'll pick Spurs.

To be honest, City will need someone to replace Company and De Ligt is the right fit, so you cannot blame them. But as our bid was accepted, lets hope that Ajax honour it and that De Ligt chose us instead of City

City already have Stones and Laporte. I'm not sure about the left/right footedness of the three players, but Pep's offer re: playing time may not be as attractive as Spurs', given City normally play a 2. We have Toby and Jan in their twilight, with only Sanchez as an established starter to replace them. Foyth is coming through, but we seem to have a more obvious slot for a new starter than City.

That's why I said earlier in the thread that Pep's opinion of Stones - which is kinda uncertain - may matter.

Here's hoping he's bright enough to recognise that City is a graveyard for young prospects.
(except John Stones, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane...)

They're doing OK by Phil Foden, too. I think he'll get some playing time next season, money or no money.

Give up. City will ALWAYS outbid us.

The decision isn't Ajax's to make based on the transfer fee. We've been here before. If De Ligt prefers to join Spurs, then City's bid is an irrelevancy. If he prefers to take the extra wages and try to wrestle his way into the City first team, then our bid is an irrelevancy. Ajax can't "trade" him to a club he doesn't want to join - this isn't baseball.

Uefa really need to introduce a fee for clubs that sign youngsters on a free to compensate the club that has invested in him.
Similar to what we have in this country.

I see both sides of this discussion. For every player where the clubs interests need to be protected there are hundreds of players who have fallen by the wayside. I have seen clubs ruin players, ruin their devlopment, ruin their careers, ruin their education, ruin their lives and the clubs really should be compensating them.

Yes, Ajax should be compensated if Kluivert leaves for free, but what about the players Ajax have let go along the way?

Depends on the club though. I know that our club gives every support for players education. They don't play when exams sre coming up etc...

I know Spurs are very supportive of the players education, but not all clubs are run the same way. I am in the game and get exposure to clubs in a number of countries and we are one of the best run football clubs in the world.

As i said depends on the club.
