Clement Lenglet is one step away from sealing a move to Tottenham with the player reportedly giving Antonio Conte his word over the transfer. The French defender has fallen down the pecking order under Xavi at Barcelona. Indeed, he featured just 27 times in all competitions during 2021/22 – many of those appearances coming off the bench. Now he is one of nine players Barcelona are willing to offload to lighten their financial load.

I hope this goes through. He was good enough for Barca to give him a 6 year contract but ended up in a dysfunctional team and formation and tactics that didn't suit. He's certainly no worse than Dier was in a back 4 and you only need to see his transformation in a back 3 to get an idea where this could go. Lenglet is a fantastic passer which is a huge part of what Conte is after, and if we need robust defence, we have Ben Davies for that.
