World Nations League sounds like a brilliant excuse to send the Tartan Army off on a one-way away trip to North Korea.

Can't really see it happening to be honest. It doesn't really benefit the big european clubs at all so you'd have to pay them silly money to take part to make it worth their while and no matter what they call it no proper fans are going to give any more of a shit about it than they do the likes of the ICC and other pre-season friendly tournaments so I don't really see how they'll make money from it.

Supposedly the Saudis think they can make a killing off it and are willing to pay £2bn a tournament in return for being able to sell the TV rights, choose hosts and sponsors etc themselves.

Yeah but the Saudis etc. will only be able to sell the TV rights for a profit if all the big clubs are in it and all the big clubs take it seriously, which they won't. It'll basically be just like the ICC nonsense at the moment. I just cna't see the big clubs agreeing to it

Yeah but the key thing is that if they're wrong and it doesn't sell it'd be the Saudis who miss out, not the the clubs.

Wenger has become an even worse FIFA shill than I dared to imagine.

Leaving aside the additional amount of matches to add onto players I was thinking about the prize money. So FIFA's way to get clubs to take this seriously it to have a pretty significant prize pool with estimates of 50 to 100 million Euros per club based on performance. Obviously that will be useful for sides like Chelsea, City, and other major clubs in Europe with FFP. But it could be a windfall for the non major clubs. But my worry is that a lot of these clubs are already dominating their leagues already (Wydad FC from Morocco - 5 league titles since 2015, Al Ahly from Egypt has won the league 14 of the past 17 seasons, Auckland City in NZ has won 8 straight league titles as examples). Wouldn't having these sides get an extra 50 to 80m Euros risk making them an even more dominant force in their leagues resulting in even less competitive competitions?
