Tottenham and Middlesbrough have both been charged by the Football Association following the ugly brawl which scarred Tuesday night’s Barclays Premiership encounter at White Hart Lane.

    source - Evening Echo

Scuffles between the sides broke out four minutes from the end of Spurs’ 2-1 win.

The fracas was triggered by a tackle from Boro midfielder George Boateng on Aaron Lennon and involved almost a dozen players at one stage.

The respective clubs have until December 21 to respond and face a large fine if found guilty.

Both Boateng and Tottenham’s Didier Zokora were red-carded by referee Mark Halsey.

However, while Spurs boss Martin Jol claimed afterwards he would almost certainly appeal against Zokora’s dismissal, only Boro have actually done so on Boateng’s behalf.

The Dutch international will have his case heard on Thursday. However, unless the FA adopt a lenient stance he will be suspended for four matches as the 33-year-old has already been dismissed once this season, against Arsenal in September.

It would rule Boateng out of Saturday’s home encounter with Wigan, plus the following games against Fulham, Charlton and Everton.

Meanwhile Zokora will start a three-game ban this weekend which will culminate in the Carling Cup quarter-final clash with Southend.

Just saw highlights of the match.

When Lenon had fouled Boateng, Boateng was going for him. Zogora reacted by getting Boateng first.

Because of the rules of the game he had to be red carded for lifting his hands and physically pushing Boateng.

What he should have done is stepped in between ( as he did) and leave it for Boateng to make first strike.

It was a plaudible but clumsy effort on Zogora's part as they both then lost their balance when he was trying to push Boateng away, making look much worse than it really was. This coupled by Chimbonda unnecessarily steaming in and holding Boateng as well.

Did it scar the match? Did it really? I quite enjoy a bit of a fraas, lends an edge to procedings that I find quite invigorating. Of course, if you're a Daily Mail reader and are terribly upset by such things (but not to the extent that you don't want big pictures and graphic descriptions of what happened) then it's a different story.

I was there in the North Stand shouting "Leeeettttssss get reeeady tooo RUUUUMMMMBBBLLLEEEE!!!!!"

Seriously - it all spilled into the east and I saw a few fans get a cheeky hit in or two.

Then just as the crowd were starting to settle, pogatetz steamed straight in from the restart two footed on scudmeister and should have gone too!!! totally premeditated.

It was a mental end to a fairly sedate affair - by the way, Lee was fairly ok - but Abel Xavier was so huge it looked like he might eat him - and steed is even shorter than lee. Our left is tiddly and teams might exploit that.

Add defoe it was like the munchkin brigade at times last night!

Where? Wouldn't mind seeing again - esp. Berby's goal

I agree, I was just proud of the way Zokora was willing to defend a team mate, which shows that they can "fight" for one another, a quality that was lacking against the ARSEanal..

We need to learn from this, we need to learn from the likes of the great Matterazzi. What you do is make your oponent feel that blinding animal rage, through back-chatting, heel-nibbling, nutmegs or showboats etc; then when he comes at you full of bloodlust you just take what ever he's got (lets face it 999/1000 times it's just a bit of a shove or a head to head shouting match). But the most important thing is that our players just maintain the air of innosence - agai characterised by the great matterazzis shoulder shrugging and amazing pointing at his own chest amid questioning, unbelieving, glances.

If Lennon had just let that animal boateng come at him and he actually did swing for him, their player gets a red card and we keep 11 on the pitch, and he lands in deep merde getting perhaps a 5 month ban, so a potential rivel looses an important player.

All this standing up for each other nonsence sheer braggadiccio.

No obvious place to post this, so I'll put it here.

I just watched Thimothée Atouba utterly losing it with his own supporters.

He was the last man defending a sensational goal by Zhikov of CSKA, who beat about 5 or 6 Hamburg defenders in a 50m-60m run leading to a solo goal.

Atouba pulled out of his challenge, presumably because it would have been a penalty, and Zhikov finished the goal anyway.

The Hamburg supporters were booing and whistling him from there on in and he eventually lost his rag, started flipping his middle finger at the crowd and demanded to be substituted.

He got his wish, but on his way off the pitch, out came the middle finger again, accompanied by spitting gestures in the direction of the fans.

Already off the pitch, having officially been substituted, he was red-carded and Hamburg continued with 11 men. They then came back from 1-2 down and won the match 3-2.

As the announcer drily commented at the end, I don't think Atouba will be playing too many times again for Hamburg.

You'd think he would have got used to being booed by his own supporters...

Sad to see a promising career going down a drain. :-|
